I'd love to ask those pius holier-than-thou BBWA members that have chosen to shut Barry Bonds out of Cooperstown--unjustly in my view--whether they believe Bill Belicheck, he of Spygate and now Deflategate, deserves to go to the pro football HOF.

I think I can speak for Allen in that he wouldn't allow either Belichick or Tom Brady into the Hall.
My personal feeling is that I would certainly vote for Bonds and probably would vote for Belichick and Brady, as well, although with much regret in the case of the two footballers and some in the case of Bonds.
There were many others on steroids when Bonds took them, not that it excuses the act. In the case of Belichik and Brady, what they did was cheating designed specifically to win the game. Maybe it is common for teams to under-inflate the ball, which would make them just as bad as the Patriots. But at this point at least, we don't know that.
I have read that Aaron Rodgers likes to throw a very firm ball. Aerodynamically I would think the ball would go faster and perhaps more true. I could be wrong about that, and hopefully Don will correct me if I am wrong.
I do know that CATCHING a less-pressurized ball is easier, as the ball is softer against the hands. It would be harder to fumble.
There is this feeling going around that if you're not cheatin', you're not tryin' hard enough." Although I suspect there are some here who believe that way, obviously it's wrong. If you cheat, you're implying you're not good enough. No matter what, cheating is, well, cheating.
As an aside, Boly is a big Rams fan who now has at least a small reason to root a little for the 49ers. I thought our local NFC team made a very smart move in hiring Boly's favorite quarterback, Kurt Warner, to work with Colin Kaepernnick. Kaepernick seems to have the potential to become a very good QB. Perhaps Warner can bring out that potential.
Meanwhile, much as I dislike Seattle, I'll be rooting for them over the -- to use a term Randy might like -- Cheatriots.

I couldn't be more indifferent about the outcome of a Super Bowl. I will be hosting a 2014 Giants postseason marathon on Stupid Bowl Sunday.

Being a Jets fan (unfortunately) you know I can't stand the Pats and Belichick and will be rooting hard for the Seahawks next Sunday.

I loved what normally close-to-the-vest Don Shula called him. Bill-a-cheat.
I know it's been used before, but NOT from someone with the stature of Don.

The hands of Luck and Brady, and Wilson of Seattle are roughly the size of the hitting surface of a tennis raquet!
And Don is right on the button. I WAS a QB was smallish hands, and YES I wanted a softer ball.
Here's the thing, though. I've played football for the Military in Nebraska in the winter, and when a football gets cold, it gets hard as a rock!
It also gets a 'slick' feeling to it, that, even for a guy with large hands, it makes it harder to control because you lose finger-tip 'feel.'
But here's what most haven't even thought of. It's also easier to CATCH when it's under inflated. The ball has slightly more 'give' when it hits your hands.
Same with running backs. That softer ball is easier to hold on to.
