It's a business. I get that.
But I will not remember Pablo for what he did for us... I will remember him as a liar and a hypocrite.
It's that complicated for me, and that simple.
He said he wanted to be a Giant forever.
Then, for a few dollars more, he left.
As the Fonz said: "Sit on it."
Regardless of what the giants did for you, regardless of how much the fans supported you, literally, you flipped them off, and walked out the door.
I wish you all of the LACK of success in the world.
Your actions proved conclusively what you are. A selfish, lying, hypocrite.
At least when Kent left, we knew it was for the money.
You spit in the face of your team, your managers and coaches, but worst of all, you spit in the face of your fans.

It is possible Pablo simply changed his mind or changed his priorities. It would be nice if he made a statement to the fans, but I'm not sure his camp is sophisticated enough for that.
Sometimes say things in the heat of the moment that aren't truly indicative of their overall feelings.

It is shocking to me all the venom for Pablo I am seeing from some fans. There's NO teammate in the Giants clubhouse who feels ANY ill will to the Panda and rightfully so. The ring they receive this coming spring will be largely from his contributions. As I said in another post, if Pablo could go back and measure some of his comments better, Im sure he would. There's no way anyone will ever convince me he is a bad person in any way. I just do not see that at all.
You can SAY you get that it's a business all you want but it seems to me you're taking this WAY too personally and I do believe you're also going a bit too far in some of your own criticism.
Don't hate...appreciate.

I think my feeling is somewhere in between Boly and Randy. Pablo was a part of 3 world championships, and that will never be forgotten. I loved his enthusiasm and the his fun loving nature he brought to the clubhouse.
But to walk away over 5 million after another championship is a head scratcher. In a way it is a slap in the face to the fans. But I don't think he intended it that way. I think he let his brother and agent take control. Oh well..
I hope we meet the Redsox in the World Series and sweep them. If not, I hope the Redsox implode and don't make the post season.

Dude you need to get over this false "he left for a few million" narrative. He didn't. The Giants final offer was not very different, money wise. The deciding factor was not money at all. If I had to guess it was the DH factor and Big Papi

Randy, my complaint was, is, and will continue to be: He lied when he said he wanted to be a Giant forever.
He is a hypocrite because what he SAID, and what he DID, were 2 different things.
The Giants offered him a great package. Was it as much in years, or money as Boston?
No.
Was it damned good?
Yes.
The liar just ran.
He spit in the faces of all of us.
I wasn't a Kent fan, but at least Jeff was honest; it was all about the money.

Boly, you're convincing yourself of falsehoods because you want to hate him. Which is fine but I'm not going to let it go uncorrected. Yes his statements were wrong and misleading, but nobody I have heard that knows Pablo personally is being anywhere near as critical of him on this point...not even those from the Giants front office. Everybody instead is vouching highly for his character. You, like many Giants fans, are insulted that any player would have the nerve to choose some other team over ours. The money and the years difference, from everything I have heard, were not very different and therefore could not logically have been the difference maker. You can believe it was all about money if you want, but the facts say differently. As for him being a liar...it is a huge leap to say someone knowingly mislead as apart from merely changing his mind. Malicious intent needs to be present and that just is not in Pablo's character.

Obviously Boly is upset, as most of us are. But I think he does have some good points. Randy, those points are legitimate enough that you don't have enough information to defend Pablo. I'm not saying Pablo is a scumbag, but he did say he wanted to be a Giant for the rest of his career, and the Giants offered him a nice contract to allow him to be a Giant forever, he instead opted to go to Boston.
If he wanted to be a DH then why did he want 6 years from the Giants? and why was he "disrespected" by the Giants if he felt he was unable to play a position for a long period of time? His reasoning just doesn't make sense.
But I'm over it, personally I wish him the best. But, I hope the Redsox crumble. They've become the Yankees, a team they hated for doing exactly what they just did to us.
Screw the Redsox.

Shockingly, I'm with Randy on this one. Pablo leaving is mystifying to me, but it certainly wasn't about money. The Padres offered more, and I've even heard the Padres offered an extra guaranteed year. The criticism about him lying is 100 % accurate, why he said he wanted to stay when he didn't mean it was flat out wrong, but that's not enough to make me dislike him or root against him with the Red Sox. He made his decision and that was his right. How can I be mad? Today I read the Giants are in active talks with Max Scherzer, have a meeting next week with Jon Lester, have intensified their interest in Yasmany Tomas and have engaged in trade talks with the Braves about Justin Upton. If they had signed Pablo, they'd be tapped out and negotiating with Ryan Vogelsong and Jeff Francoeur. Thank you, Pablo, and good luck!! By the way, I don't even remember Jeff Kent leaving for money. From what I remember, he was on the outs with management after the car washing incident and his generally nasty disposition, and it was a mutual parting of the ways.

Mark: Maybe Kent didn't come right out and say it was for the money, but listen to him even now; it was ALWAYS about the money.
I was never a big Kent fan. But with him, you knew what you were getting. He was a mercenary. You knew that up front.
I'm disgusted with Pablo more than anything, and that lack of integrity will prevent me rooting for him.
And I have this 'thing' about integrity.
For me, the lack of integrity defines a man or woman.
When you say one thing, and then behave in another, that pretty much sums it all up.
But as I said in my post to Mark on another thread, this will likely work out better for us. Remember, also, I did NOT want to pay the guy all the money we had in the bank.
But I EXPECTED him to be more up front.
Silly me.
Randy, if you think I hated Pablo, I'm sorry to disappoint you.
Either one is a man of his word... or he's a liar and a hypocrite.
No matter what anyone says, what Pablo DID, defined him.
We can cover 3B if we sign a LF bat, OR, as I've been saying for months, and what I read today on SFGAte, I think it was; Posey to 3B is NOW a very, very smart play.
Plus, as Mark pointed out, we're talking to some top flight pitchers; and right now, with 3 rings in 5 years, if you're a pitcher, wouldn't YOU want to pitch at AT&T
We could very well end up being better without Pablo, than with him.
It remains to be seen, but we sign one or two top arms? And we're right back in it.

Posey at 3rd was completely discounted by Bobby Evans. We shouldn't expect to see it anytime soon. AND 3rd base wont be covered by anyone in the organization currently.
Maybe we will be better next year, but it's hard to imagine 3 more titles in the next 5 years. One thing's for sure...Love Stinks. Oh and the pressure is on Sabes now...big time.

Saying you're going to do one thing and then turning around and doing something else can make you untrustworthy but it doesn't necessarily make you a liar or a hypocrite. One would be a liar if he knows beforehand that the statement was not going to be strictly followed. We don't know that Pablo did in fact know that. Indeed, Bobby Evans stated that Pablo was conflicted about the decision right to the end. Hypocrisy would have been if Pablo had criticized others for leaving a good situation and then doing it himself. I don't recall Pablo doing that.

Then Randy, you and I have completely different ideas about not only what lying is, but also what integrity and hypocrisy are.
A man is defined by his actions, not his words.
Pablo said one thing to please the fans and crowds, but did another.
And based upon his recent comments, I beielve his recent words reflect his actions; "I needed a change."
Really? A change. You were LOVED in SF!
You won 3 titles in SF!
Your teammates LOVED you in SF!
And now you want us to believe you DID this because you NEEDED A CHANGE?
Bottom line for me? He never, ever had much intention of staying in SF.
None.
You can't say the things he's said, and done what he did and have been sincere in the first place.
Randy, you accuse me of hating him, and I do not.
I'm disgusted by his lack of integrity and his outright lying to Giant fans.
You, on the other hand, seem so hung up loving Pablo, you've become blinded to what actually occured.
Doesn't make you a bad guy. Not at all. I've done the same thing myself lots of time.
But I couldn't leave on vacation without at least trying to point that out to you.
Have a GREAT Thanksgiving, my friend!
