Players today need to be more like Jake Peavy and less like Brandon Belt. The season is almost over man! You have the full offseason to recover from your little aches and pains. Peavy would go out there and pitch with half an arm if he had to. Belt has been clear for baseball activities for over a week and yet still he remains inactive when we need him most and half the everyday lineup on the shelf. I'm sick of this crap from this guy. His potential is through the roof but he just doesn't seem to have the desire to be as good as he can be.

Randy: Couldn't agree more about Peavy. I'd also throw in Pence in that conversation.
But Belt has said he's ready to play. From what I've read it's BOCHY'S decision NOT to have him on the field, not Brandon's.
He's needed, of that there is no doubt.
Waiting until the San Diego series is asinine.
He needs all the at bats he can get, and sitting on the bench, he AIN'T getting them.

Belt has had a concussion, which is one of the most devastating of injuries.
Of course Brandon needs at bats -- but where is he going to get them? You have told us it takes a player a long time to be ready to hit. Is Brandon ready to hit now? The plan is to play him in the Arizona Fall League tomorrow when it opens. There just isn't a place right now to play a guy on a rehab assignment.
As you have pointed out though, if the decision has been Bochy's as indicated, aren't we very wrong to be criticizing Belt for the situation? The person to blame -- as much as can be the case in an accident -- is the guy who threw the second ball and hit Brandon.
Maybe the blame is the system. Haven't we all felt it was dangerous with all the balls flying around during batting practice -- and some players not even paying a lot of attention (which doesn't appear to be the case with Belt, who was involved in a drill).

Wow, no offense, Randy, but you're really clueless when it comes to how a player is treated after a concussion. Are you aware of the lawsuit against the NFL because of their ignorance when it came to treating players after concussions? This is why leagues have concussion protocols now. You want Belt to rub some dirt on his head and get out there? You want him to come back too soon and have to retire? Oh yeah, he returned today.

I'll repeat because you must have missed it the first time...Belt has been cleared by his brain specialists for over a week now. I certainly would not criticize him if that hurdle had not been cleared. All the protocols had been met last week. All I want is to see a little desire in him...force Bochy to drag him off the field...because that is what it would take for me to be left out of a pennant race if I was in that spot. I live daily with bunches of sports ailments and that was just school teams and rec league type of stuff. No athlete knows when the end may come or when his last chance at a title may be...that would motivate the hell out of me. But not giraffe boy

He's off for a month, you think Bochy wants him out there rusty like that, especially when Travis Ishikawa is doing a more than decent job as a lefty hitting first baseman? The minor league season is over, they couldn't send him out on a rehab assignment once he was cleared, all they could do was days of batting and fielding practice. Belt could have begged Bochy to play and it wouldn't have mattered, because Bochy obviously felt that Ishikawa was a better choice at first until Belt could get some reps in. He didn't want to send Belt right back out there after not facing live pitching for a month. These are must wins. When Belt returns to the lineup, he has to be ready to go, they can't afford an acclimation period.

A high draft choice who put on the fast track by the Giants after he was shifted to short.....he was a poor second baseman and it was crazy to move him to short... but that is how the Giants operate... Duffy has been doing something that Barry Bonds couldn't do, put up decent numbers as a pinch hitter....

Tim Hutting was an 8th-round draft choice who posted a .247 career minor league average and was out of baseball after four seasons.

Hey Bochy, either you put me on the active squad or I am going to resupply Puig with PEDs. And you DON'T want that!

Rog -- I don't know, so I merely stated the pertinent facts I did know.
My guess though would that it would be one of three things, possibly more than one:
. The Giants someone else they were higher on at second base and moved Hutting to shortstop so he could play.
. The Giants felt Hutting's bat was too light to play second base and hoped he could improve his fielding enough to shorstop.
. The Giants saw him as a utility player and were merely getting him experience at another position.
These are merely educated guesses. I have no idea what the facts are.
