With Hudson's 16 game implosion, or explosion, if you prefer, our once reliable rotation (note I didn't say "outstanding," or "solid," or "really good") rotation has taken a firm punch to the stomach.
what we're left with, essentially, is Bumgarner, and then a gaggle of 6 inning pitchers:
Vogey Peavy Petit.
As it stands right now, I don't see where Hudson even fits in to the post season starting plans. I mean 16 straight starts with an ERA of 4.87?
Um, that ain't good.
But all the same, I ask myself, "how can you exclude him from that starting 4?"
Personally, I can and I would if.... iffffffff his final couple of starts are as poor as his last 16...to me, that would seal his fate.
Or......
if Petit implodes and we're left with no choice BUT to keep him in the top 4.
Either way, it's not a good position to be in.
Hey. Petit didn't win, but he put us in a position where we could have won.
Certainly better than Hudson did.
Whatever direction Bochy goes... this is the Zito-complex all over again, and I feel badly for the skipper.

Things might be close enough to say auditions are continuing this evening.
Peavy is in along with Bumgarner. It will be tough, although certainly not impossible, to keep Hudson out. That would leave a battle between Vogelsong and Petit.
My thought is that Hudson would have to pitch really poorly to be left out, while Petit would need to pitch exceptionally well to get in.
I don't feel bad for Bruce. He has options. The rest is part of the job.

I agree, Tim Hudson has to be a part of the rotation, and it's between Vogelsong and Petit for the fourth spot. I'm leaning towards Petit right now. The Giants aren't deep enough to give up on Hudson at this point. They have to hope he bounces back.

No Lincecum?
You might not like him but he has been pretty successful in the post season.
I might be inclined to pitch him in the one game playoff if it comes to that.

He's really messed up right now, Boagie, I don't see how you can even have him on the roster. That being said, Madison Bumgarner was all messed up in the 2012 playoffs and they got him straightened out between starts to pitch a great game in the 2012 World Series. If playoff position is clinched before the last game of the season and there's a couple of meaningless games, I'd certainly give him a start and see if he's capable of helping us.

Ryan Vogelsong also had issued near the end of the 2012 season.
As for Tim's being on the roster, I wouldn't close the door, but I would certainly expect him to earn his way onto the roster this final week and a half of the regular season.
If I were adding him to the roster, I would do so in place of J.C. Gutierez, but right now it is hard to justify him over even Hunter Strickland or George Kontos.
The Giants will have their long man in whomever of the five starters they choose not to include in the rotation, so Tim will need to show he is the best choice for middle relief.
Tim's 2012 postseason and the loyalty the Giants may feel toward him will help his cause to make the roster. But I believe he needs to show something between now and the end of the season to deserve a spot.
I've never been so baffled by a player as I have been by Tim.

I do like the idea of giving him a start or at least a couple of relief chances the rest of the way if the situation allows.
