The sampling is small, I'll start there, but from what I've seen of Matt Duffy so far, I've been impressed.
Let's start with defense.
3 games at 2B in the minors, and he plays there like he's always been there.
NO games at 3B, and he makes a marvelous play last night.
Again, small sampling, but it does show his ATHLETIC ability.
After the first couple of games I wondered if his hands were as soft and steady as Panik's.
At this point... AT THIS POINT... from my brief observations, I would say they are.
Offense
He knows NONE of the pitchers. None.
Yet a couple times last night, he squared up the ball, and on his single to RF, did what the other EXPERIENCED MORONS (and yes, that's the word I mean), seemed unable to do EARLY in the game; wait on that change up and go WITH IT into RF.
Later, against one of their FLAME THROWERS... he squared up a ball and hit it hard, even though, of course, ours always do,it went right at someone for an out.
Bottom line; Again, from a limited sampling, I'm impressed.
Like I said previously, you DON'T hit .332 at ANY LEVEL if you can't hit.
So far, so good.
So, my questions;
1-Is this a forerunner of a new middle infield defense? Panik and Duffy?
2-Will Crawford's continued INABILITY to hit at least 2 frickin' 50(!!!!) get him moved in the off season?
3-Will they even give the kid, Duffy, as chance once we fall out of the race? (And I believe we will. Why? The signs. There were more last night.
a-Perez' ball that, of course, hooked foul.
b-Again, 3rd time in 2 weeks, we had a runner OVER SLIDE a base! That should NEVER happen! Heck, in the last 5 years, I can hardly EVER remember it happening. And last night it was Pence!
c-Almost everything the opposition hits in a key situation, goes to the wrong guy. Ground ball to Morse last night that he screwed up, and flyball to Pagan his first day back in Milwaukee that he mis played into a double.
d-Almost everything THEY HIT, when it's needed most, finds a hole. Ours? Of course not.
e-The Dodgers are winning games on fluke errors. They lost last night, but they'll bounch back tonight.
f-No matter what we do, we just keep having players go down. Now, it's Belt again.
g-Key situations, our big guys, most of the time, fall on their collective faces. Posey, again, last night. He's just not driving in runs as he should be. I say again, 50+ RBIs THIS late in the year? UNACCEPTABLE.
h-Bochy hasn't got a clue how to piece together a line up with key pieces missing. He doesn't. Any time you hit Blanco 5th, you need your head examined.
Those are my reasons. You may disagree, but no disrespect intended, you'd be wrong.
