No specific order. The following are just random observations not just on last night, but things in general.
1-Remember what I posted about Uggla and his vision problems. To me, that was REALLY apparent when he let that 3 hopper go right through his legs. As I got older, and my vision began to deteriorate, that's exactly the kind of that I had happen to me.
2-2 Uggly errors. Absolutely not acceptable. I know Arias hasn't been worth the smell coming off a three year old fart... but Uggla hurts you with his glove, his range AND his bat.
Give me Arias. At least he'll catch the ball.
Oh, my. What a point. One of the runs LA scroed was UNEARNED. Didn't we lose 3-4?
3-Peavey- Loved his intensity. Loved it! And as Pence said, the old guy LAID OUT for that throw/oops by Posey! Which, by the way, was Peavey's fault.
4-Peavey had nice movement on his fast ball, but I was totally UNIMPRESSED with the movement on his slider. I thought he did a really nice job for us last night, considering he got NO HELP from the guys in the field.
5-Peavy pitched better than most teams' number 5 guy. And as I believe Mark said, or maybe it was Rog, reports of us SUB 90's fastball were greatly exaggerated.
He may be able to help us.
6-Posey. Once upon a time, I praised his baseball instincts; since I see so few players that have them. But last night, and many times this year, I wonder where he stashed those instincts because they've been on hiatus(sp?) And honestly, many, many MANY times this year, he's been an embarassment behind the plate.
That nonsense of NOT looking Gordon back last night was INexcuseable. Again, Baseball 101. Adrian Gonzalez isn't going to out run ANYONE other than Roger, Don and myself.
The passed ball on strike three was just one more example of his lack of proper blocking skills behind the plate. Not that it was an easy play. It was NOT. But... HAD HE DROPPED to his knees, like catchers are TAUGHT TO DO on a ball in the dirt, he takes that ball off the chest protector, glove, or cup. IN any of those scenarios, no runner advances.
Don has been saying that Posey belongs at 1B, Kruk says 1st or 3rd. Personally, I'd lobby for 3B, because I'm betting Pablo is gone, based upon the money he wants.
I'd prefer to keep Belt at 1B rather than the outfield.
8-Kruk IS RIGHT, though, Posey should NOT be behind the plate any longer. His bat is too valuable.
Good call, Don.
9-What's up with Morse and the power outtage? 43 games and ONE (1) HR? And he was so tardy on some fastballs last night that I was stunned beyond words.
10-There is no reason to keep Uggla on the roster. None. I'd rather Iron Hands Abreu out there than Captain K.
11-I loved Hudson's statement; "When we have all our guys playing, we're equal, maybe even better than they are (LA)." And he's right. IF we could get everyone on the field.
12-1 1/2 games out. If, in the next week or so we can get Pagan and Belt back, we're in pretty good shape; assuming of course, that the Injury Fairy doesn't make an more appearances.
13-Watching last night's game with Uggla and Duval on the right side made me think that it looked like we were in a street fight with one hand tied behind our back.
14-I'll be honest, though, my hopes aren't high for our chances to win the division and advance even one round.
They aren't.
But, I was totally UNIMPRESSED with the Dodger line up.
Ramirez is barely adequate at SS
Gonzalez, though still a formidible hitter is NOT the guy he used to be.
Kemp is no longer a 30HR threat
Puig is a loose cannon in CF. In that spot he's GOING to make some huge blunders that could cost them games.
Dee Gordon is playing way over his head and skill level at the plate.
Wilson, and yes, I HATED him even when he was with us, is way below average. Only our over aggressive, stupid plans at the plate got him through the inning.
Crawford/Eithier in LF... Not impressed.
We have a chance IF we can keep them close the next two weeks, AND get our guys back AND have them perform near normal AND if we can pick up one solid guy in a deal.
That's a lot of ANDS, and I know it.
But those are my observations, hate 'em or love 'em.
