I've watched Petit in 4 starts now, and I must say, I'm far from impressed.
He had good command today, but what I didn't like was that the 2nd time through the line up THEY made adjustments to his outside stuff, and he either wouldn't, couldn't or flat out refused to.
Don't know which it was, but it wasn't smart of him.
You can't sit on the outside corner all day long and NOT move them off the plate, or challenge them inside.
I had long thought he'd be a viable candidate for the # 5 spot, but 4 starts into this, I no longer believe he is.
Seems he's good for once through the line up... (based on the way Bochy got him out of there so quickly in Colorado), and how he was lite up the second time through today.
As for Huff...I wasn't impressed with him when the season began, but I took a wait and see attitude.
I was not impressed with his last outting in Colorado, and even less impressed today.
I'm glad Cain didn't start, don't get me wrong. I wanted him on the DL.
Hamstrings are funny things.
They say "strain," I say HAMSTRING

Didn't finish the post.
I say, 'HAMSTRING...BE CAREFUL!!!!!
We can afford 2 starts now, we can't afford a lingering problem.

It seemed there must be a reason Yusmeiro's ERA at Fresno last season was over 4.50. Now we see what it is.

Petit seems to want to live on that outside corner, come hell or high water. He just won't go away from it. The double to Samardzija just killed him. Imo, Pence could have been playing a little deeper. The home plate ump was ghastly for both sidles, No excuses though, Petit did not adjust when they started going with the outside pitch.

Petit is definitely better in short doses, which makes him more effective as a long reliever who only goes through the lineup once, maybe twice. He's also better when he doesn't know he's going to pitch. I don't know if that's him getting overhyped when he knows he's starting, or the opposition being better prepared for his style when they know they're facing him because they're watching video of him. Probably the latter.

You reenforced my point perfectly, Allen.
He simply will not adjust.
