Mark--I think it's too early, Boly, although I pretty much agree that it's not getting turned around at this point. I don't think Sabean is ready to go to ownership and tell them he threw 35 million of their dollars in the toilet. Besides, didn't you post you liked what you saw after his last start? Just one start changes your mind like that?

I agree with you on all points, Mark. It IS too early, and I also agree that I don't think Sabean is ready to go to ownership and admit he flushed 35 million down the drain.
In fact, here's my direct quote of what I said: "4-We're getting CLOSE to the time when we need to run someone else out there NOT named Lincecum."
My main points of the post were:
1-It's time for everyone to stop pretending that "Tim's in a slump," or, "not to worry, he'll get it straightened out."
Two, back-to-back stinky seasons in a row, and even though he's 'sort of' shown flashes of really "pitching," he still hasn't come anywhere close to getting IT straightened out.
2-Bochy HAS to see what we see, and he HAS to be thinking what we're thinking; "We can't go on like this. We can't roll Tim out there every 5th day with our fingers crossed. Time to stop remembering what he was, and deal with what he IS. And what he IS isn't good.
3-IS Petit a better option right now? Even in the short term? He deserves a chance.
4-Every-other-start- from Tim "seems" to give us hope... only to have it dashed the next time out.
As to your last question, "Just one start changes your mind like that?"
The answer is, no, it doesn't.
But my opinion is not based on just this ONE start. Today's horror movie has just been one more a continuation of what we've seen from him this year; off...on...off...on.
Remember, after that last post I said something to the effect of: "Now we'll see if he can come close to this next time out."
Not only didn't he come close, but he was all over the frickin' lot!
I mean, opening the game with 7 straight balls?
?!!!!!!
By the time they pulled him, I had really LOST COUNT of how many what Krukow calls "specialty" pitches, he'd "hung!"
For each 'dandy' he threw, he botched up 3 others.
It was painful to watch.
It really was.
And Kontos? I wasn't impressed! Not at all! What I saw was more of the same crap he gave us last year; whackable pitches.
My best guess is that they'll hang with him into June and see what happens. For 35 million, they sort of have to.
But I'm leaning HARD towards the opinions expressed by many a year or so back that he MAY be better suited to pitch in relief.
Might as well give it a shot.
