I hate to point this out, but Giants, all of a sudden, seem to be falling like proverbial flies.
It's like... I sit here waiting for the next "shoe to drop," as the saying goes.
Besiders the nagging spring owies, Scutaro isn't ready, Affeldt goes down, and now Lincecum.
This is not a good sign. Not at all.
It's a long season, I know, but if this injury CRAP is going to be dogging us for the entire year, I'm going to be one ticked off Giant fan.
Screw that crap!

Lincecum is supposedly ok and will make his scheduled start. On the other hand, Clayton Kershaw was just put on the DL and will miss his start against the Giants next week. Looks like the injury bug actually struck somewhere else!

boly says---I worried about Tim because I took one of those shots off the shin and MAN! The next day, everything is tight and it's hard just to walk without a limp.
Bochy touched upon my concern; will it alter his delivery?
He said that if they felt it was, they'd push him back.
I'm not there, it's not my leg... but I'd be inclined to err on the side of caution and push him back a start. They've got a long season ahead and the last thing they need is for a problem to develop.
As to Kershaw... Man, Mark. I haven't even seen that on the news down here.
Last I'd heard was "tightness" in his back. That was it.
Now, the DL.
I don't want him to be permanently injured, but doggone it! It's nice to see other teams getting bitten, too.

Yeah, I'm worried about Lincecum too, to be honest. He's been hit previously by line drives, and I sometimes notice him flinching when he pitches because of that. I've always wondered if that somehow affects his performance. This latest injury could be a psychological problem as much as a physical one.

Tim got hit in the head by a line drive in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2005. In fact, after he was beaned, his team took him out of the rotation and made him their closer.
When Tim was asked after being hit on Friday night when he was last struck by a line drive, I believe he replied something to the effect of "Houston, 5th inning, oh-eight." I had forgotten about that incident until he brought it up, but he was indeed hit in the 5th inning at Houston on August 12, 2008.
The batter was retired on the play. The Giants were ahead 3-2 at the time but went on to be blown out, 12-4. Tim started again five days later, and I doubt he'll miss his start this time. He doesn't ice his arm, but in the press conference after the game, he said he had iced this injury four times.
Giants Insider Andrew Baggarly said that Tim was walking around after the game like nothing had happened. He called it just another example of how Tim was "the freak."
The Giants won't allow him to start, of course, if they feel the injury would in any way jeopardize his arm, but Tim was apparently still feeling pretty good yesterday after the injury the night before. If necessary, the Giants could move him back a day, which would mean he would open the Dodgers series instead of Ryan Vogelsong.
I wonder if at some time during the season the Giants split up Madison Bumgarner and Matt Cain in the rotation. If they moved Madison ahead of Vogelsong in the rotation at some point, it would seem to balance out the bullpen with regard to the innings it would be likely to pitch and the level of the bullpen likely to be used.
If the Giants chose to do so, they could pitch Madison ahead of Ryan on Thursday the 10th, meaning Bumgarner would make his third start the day before Vogelsong made his second. Making that move would also put Bumgarner to make his final start before the All-Star game on Saturday instead of Sunday, giving him a better opportunity to pitch should he be chosen for the game.
I doubt it will happen, but if I were the Giants I would make the move. Might give them a tiny chance at an extra win.
