Judging by Bochy's last comment, "He probably just needs to make a few more adjustments..." my first thoughts were; "Uh, oh. Bochy was not as happy with Vogey's outting as Vogey was.
I'm guessing that if his next outting is just as bad, Vogey might be moving from the dog house to the "out" house; as in "out of town," and that right quick.
I love Vogey's chip, but you have to perform.
I'm really pulling for him because I really want to see him bounce back.
He's a good kid who busted his fanny, and perservered to get where he was.
He deserves a couple more solid years.

Vogelsong's fate won't be decided in spring training.

Boagie, I didn't mean to imply that it would be. I'm only commenting about what Bochy did "not" say; reading between the lines, he ain't happy.

But you also said "I'm guessing that if his next outting is just as bad, Vogey might be moving from the dog house to the "out" house; as in "out of town," and that right quick."
Wouldn't that mean his fate would be sealed during a spring training outing?

Boly -- I'm guessing that if his next outting is just as bad, Vogey might be moving from the dog house to the "out" house; as in "out of town," and that right quick. Rog -- I doubt the Giants would release Ryan even if he performs poorly. Maybe late in the season if he really stinks it up, even in relief. I didn't want Vogey back, but all the sentimental Giants fans did, and the fifth spot will be a black hole all season. Escobar has shown he's not ready to step in when Ryan inevitably fails. I'm predicting they pick up a veteran starter via cut or deal before the season starts. Problem now is unlike signing an FA, this will cost us a prospect unless they sign a bum.

I liked Allen's comment that Yusmeiro Petit may be settling from thin air syndrome with his key pitch being the breaking ball. Let's not forget that some here would have been satisfied with Petit as the #5 starter from the get go.
Petit is a guy who seems to rely on pinpoint control, so despite just one walk in 8.0 innings, perhaps he's not getting the ball where he wants to. That could explain why he was good in the majors last season after being mediocre at best at Fresno.
I do take heart in Vogelsong's not being upset with where he is. Sometimes that can be a precursor for significant improvement. If he's lousy in his next start though, that would sound an alarm for me. At this point though, I would consider the light as being yellow, hopefully not verging on orange.

Let's also not forget that Petit pitched a large chunk of his career in Tucson and Phoenix. If there's anyone we shouldn't be using the thin air excuse on, it's him.
That's not to say I think thin air doesn't alter the flight of the ball, but struggling in spring training is more a lack of getting the feel for your pitches, rather than the density of the air. After all, our pitchers are going to have to pitch in Arizona and Colorado throughout the season.

First Allen and now you coming up with stuff I hadn't thought of with regard to Yusmeiro. Apparently my knowledge base on this subject is a little petite. I thank you guys for keeping me thinking. I think you guys keep me thanking. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/2203/reading-lines#ixzz2wYXGnHKA

Petit is starting tonight, so let's watch that closely. Madison Bumgarner seems poised for a huge Cy worthy year, (if not for that damn Kershaw!) with 7 scoreless , with 9 K's last night. Hasn't given up an earned run in spring training. You just know he'll get knocked out in the first inning on Opening Day!

Indeed it does.
What happend was that the ORIGNIAL post I made... NEVER made it to the board. So I had to re create what I remembered about it, and I left the part out where I explained what I meant.
I posted it while at school, and I get "timed out" after a period of minutes, and even though it appears I can still type and access the site, the minute I hit "send" I get the notice that I'm no longer connected... and of course, the post I "sent" has disappeared into...the mist of cyber space.

As i posted in another thread, please note 2012, when Barry Zito followed a horrid 2011 season with an even worse Spring. He even had to get extra work in Minor League camp before the season started. Then his first start of the regular season--in Coors Field, no less--was an absolute gem, clean shutout. His regular season was pretty good, far better than his previous campaigns and his postseason, as we all remember, was outstanding.
Likewise that same year Brandon Belt lit up the Cactus League, only to have a putrid regular season.
I think we all get so hyped up for the season that we put too much emphasis on Spring numbers.

Randy -- I think we all get so hyped up for the season that we put too much emphasis on Spring numbers. Rog -- Spring numbers are based on such small samples. Remember back at the beginning of spring training when the rotation was so amazingly strong? Now at the end, even Madison Bumgarner is giving up runs.
