Rog in a desperate attempt to defend a true dk, grossly understated Buster's numbers in 2012. Here is the link to ESPN's stats page where the numbers don't lie. They are as I quoted, thereby showing that dk to be as biased as he claims I am. dk...I didn't get Rog's post, so I can't comment on it...however, I was talking about Posey's record between Aug.12, 2012 and Sep.8, 2012...this was when Posey went without a HR in 82 at bats ...a great let down in power....and you seem to omit any mention of the second half of 2013 when Posey put up numbers worthy of a waiver batter hitting in the 8th slot.....after a great June (.374/.426/.636), Posey slid down and down...July (.265/.319/.398). August (.284/.353/.318) and September( .233/.356/315).....are those the numbers you want from a clean-up hitter? ?....the only Giants' player I ever had a bias against in the 80 years of rooting for them was Barry Bonds...even before the drug issue became a factor....I never liked the way he played the game and was vocal about it...

Go on that small sample if you want. Post ASG stats show that your statement that he was "terrible" in the second half of 2012 was patently false. Either you are a liar or you have such a grudge against Posey you don't mind bending or twisting stats to fit your agenda. Don't you rag on Rog for doing the same? Add hypocrite to that list.

Don -- and you seem to omit any mention of the second half of 2013 when Posey put up numbers worthy of a waiver batter hitting in the 8th slot.....after a great June (.374/.426/.636), Posey slid down and down...July (.265/.319/.398). August (.284/.353/.318) and September( .233/.356/315).....are those the numbers you want from a clean-up hitter? ?. Rog -- Clearly, Buster's 2nd-half numbers weren't what one wants from his cleanup hitter. Nearly as clearly, his numbers were above what one would expect from a waiver-wire player batting 8th. Despite the very tough second half, Buster's career numbers remain exceptional for a hitter playing prmiarily catcher. Buster's defense is considered by most to be clearly better than Don gives him credit for. Buster isn't the perfect cleanup hitter. I don't believe anyone here has said he was. Yet Buster's career WAR -- which includes defense and base running -- is at 17.5 after the equivalent of three full seasons. After three full seasons, Johnny Bench was at 18.1. After close to three full seasons, Yogi Berra stood at 6.1. Gary Carter was at 11.4. Thurman Munson, 16.4. Carlton Fisk, 14.5. Roy Campanella was at 10.2 after about 2 1/2 seasons. Buster is older than those guys were, but you can see that his numbers stack up rather well to the only guys I can think of who played during my lifetime and are in the Hall of Fame. How Buster's career will wind up, no one knows. But there is almost no one who feels as poorly about Buster's performance as Don does. Don is measuring Buster as a cleanup hitter, and very few catchers have spent a lot of time batting cleanup. As a cleanup hitter, Buster is above-average. As a catcher, he is a superb hitter. As an overall player, few rank him below the top 25 in the game. The Giants have won two World Championships in his four years with the team, and he is considered to be their best player. Anyone looking objectively at Buster sees a pretty darn good player. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2145#ixzz2nw4xVc6q
