One year. $5 million plus incentives. Good luck and may God help us all.

In other news, the Marlins swapped Justin Ruggiano for Brian Bogusevic. Morse over Ruggiano? They couldn't have traded Blanco for Ruggiano?

It may not be that bad. Huge upside, small downside. If Morse can return to anywhere near what he was in 2011 (31 HRs, 95 RBI, .910 OPS) we could really have something. The defense worries me. The wrist worres me (see DeRosa, Mark).

People need to chill. I'm sure Sabes hopes Morse can provide the kind of offense he did in Washington a couple years back, but if not, the search will continue during the season. I wasn't going to get too excited no matter who we got but, to be honest, I was hoping more for a big right handed thumper than a fast glove man because we already have those type of guys. Stay tuned.

I think one thing that had the Giants leaning Morse's way was the fact that Michael, fighting wrist issues, hit 13 HRs in pitcher friendly Safeco Field in 2013 (in 283 ABs). All the Giants left fielders combined hit 5.

I don't think anyone's unchilled quite yet. If his wrist is healed, we may have a jewel. But he still can't play defense. I guess they could put him at first and move Belt to left if it gets too bad.

---boly says---
I don't see this as a bad signing at all.
In LF, he's Pat Burrell, and Bochy did a magnificent job of managing Burrell's time in LF.
I suspect the same thing will be true here.
Also, I know Morse had a wrist injury, but I don't believe he broke it, as did Galarraga. That COULD be a good sign.
As Allen says, this 'MAY' turn out to be a jewel.

I'm not too worried about his defense if his offense is solid. I don't think Morse defensively is as bad as Trumbo or even Burrell back in 2010. He will get subbed out late in games but I don't see him as a total loss out there. He's better than Belt in the outfield.

Not from what I've read. The Burrell comparison may be more accurate. If he hits, we can live with it.

I don't like Ruggiano, and I believe we had this discussion during the season. Who did you want to trade for him then, Allen? Wasn't it Sandoval? He hit .222 this year although he did hit 18 homers.

I seriously doubt it was Sandoval, but I do remember having the discussion.

Allen -- I don't think Morse defensively is as bad as Trumbo or even Burrell back in 2010. Rog -- Defense is tough to measure, but there are many defensive metrics now, and Morse has the misfortune of ranking near the very bottom of pretty much all of them. On the other hand, he was agile enough to start 50 games at shortstop in his rookie season. I think he was just AWFUL there, but he did start nearly a third of the Mariners' games in 2005.
