Five years 85 million, with an option that can make it 6 yrs 100 million. When I found out Brian McCann was only 29, I was absolutely shocked because he's been around forever. Catchers go pretty quickly, and he might already be on the downside, but because of the DH, it's a good gamble for the Yankees. He'll hit a lot of homeruns in that park. The Yankees are very conscious of that luxury tax, but I have a feeling they're thinking they won't have to pay ARod next year. No numbers yet, but Jhonny Peralta is about to sign with the Cardinals. The dominoes are falling!

About time! There was no other place that made as much sense as the Bronx for McCann. They need a catcher, he's made for the park, and he can DH. I would have liked Peralta for left with us, if not for the roids. Way too much money though. Looking more and more like Beltran's days as a Cardinal are over.
Nobody mentioned Freese and Salas to the Angels for Peter Bourjos and a minor leaguer. On its face that seems a bit lopsided for the Angels. Bourjos has little power and is hurt alot.

Not so fast on that, Allen. First of all, the Angels are inept and the Cardinals are one of the best run organizations in baseball, and that alone forces you to look deeper at any deal they make. When you do that, you see that the "prospect" Grichuk was the second highest rated prospect in the Angels system. As for Peter Bourjos, he's such a good center fielder that when he was healthy he forced Mike Trout, who is Gold Glove caliber in CF to move to left. He's also one of the fastest players in baseball, and he did hit in the minor leagues, (,314 in his last year at AAA with 13 HR) so he has the potential to be more than just an elite defender. I actually think the Cardinals got the better of the deal here.

Could be. That's why I added the phrase "on its face". I certainly trust the Cardinals judgment, though I haven't seen alot wrong with John Jay as a centerfielder. Maybe there's another deal in the works.

Like signing Jhonny Peralta. I wonder if Peralta's parents meant to spell his name like that, or they just misspelled it on his birth certificate,

The feeling on Clubhouse Confidential was that it was another shrewd move by the Cardinals, in great part because of Bourjos' defense at an important defensive position.
As for Jay, he has had difficulties in center field.
I hadn't thought about the possible spelling error on Peralta's first name, but I wondered the same thing about former Warrior Antawn Jamison.

I haven't noticed Jay havig many problems, and in fact have seen him make some pretty stellar plays. I'm sure he's not on a level with Bourjos, but he plays. Bourjos is hurt alot. Could be a good deal with the Cards. Maybe Freese is on the decline. Maybe, as Mark says, Grichuk is a big deal.

Supposedly the next Yankee target is Beltran.

My ex wife's name was Rasalind, and she would get furious with anyone who assumed it was spelled "Rosalind," even to the point of sending back invitations. I used to say "how dare these people use their common sense!" Maybe that's why we're divorced! Anyway, her mother said she spelled it like that on her birth certificate to be different, but I'm pretty sure she just couldn't spell. As for Beltran, George King of the NY Post believes he's signing with the Yankees, and he was impeccable when George Steinbrenner was alive. He was Steinbrenner's "pet" and he always got all the inside info. Not sure if that's still true, but it probably is. They've agreed on annual salary, but not number of years. Beltran still could sign somewhere else if they offer a third year.
