Just noticed that Juan Perez is just one for his last 26 in the Dominican Winter League. Sure glad I mentioned him for part of a plan for left field.

Be thankful the guys running the Giants haven't mentioned him even once in their plans for 2014, if that's the case!

I think Juan has a decent shot of being the 5th outfielder. The Giants don't have too much talent in that area. Juan played by far the best of the candidates when given a shot.

He plays a great outfield. The hitting, we'll have to see. I don't think he'll have enough power.

I just don't know about Juan. He was brilliant in the field last season, especially with his arm.
The thing about his hitting that most discourages me is that he has struck out four times per walk.

He could be very helpful to this team as a late inning defensive replacement if they decide to compromise defense for offense when they bring in this supposed right hand power that they're looking for. However, if this player turns out to be a good defender, I don't see much of a role for Perez.

I don't see much of a role for Perez either way because Blanco is already a defensive replacement. A good hitting backup outfielder would have more value as a good pinch hitter.

That's true, Boagie. Certainly they're not going to pull Pence and Pagan for defense, so they only need Blanco for that purpose. Perez will probably run the Fresno-SF shuttle most of the year.
