The Giants have DFA'd Guillermo Moscoso.
In a lesser deal the Tigers traded Prince Fielder for Ian Kinsler. The Tigers also paid $30 Million for the privledge of dumping Fielder on the Rangers. Another big FA contract that worked out splendidly.
Perhaps the Tigers tired of Prince's post season prowess.

Good job by the Tigers to get out of the massive deal to the massive Fielder, who's declining rapidly. I'm surprised Texas wanted him.

Texas is desperate to replace the pop they lost when they let Hamilton get away and they aren't sure what they will get from Cruz moving forward.

Cruz is a free agent, so they will probably get nothing from him going forward, although they did extend him a qualifying offer.

I liked the deal from the Tigers' standpoint, and I suspect the Rangers are counting on a lot of homers from Fielder. (As the Giants' are likely finding out, it's tough to acquire power.)
The deal allows the Tigers to return Miguel Cabrera to first base, and I would think Fielder is headed more and more toward DH'ing. The Rangers had three good middle infielders for two spots, and they kept the two youngest.
The deal might work out for both teams, but it frees up money for the Tigers to retain their several (4?) big free agents over the next year. It appears the Rangers are trying to turn things around quickly, and they're also getting slightly younger in doing so.
