Mark -- Obviously Sabean thought that Bengie was still getting too many starts at Buster's expense, and he had to do something about it without calling Bochy into the office and demanding that Posey play. Rog -- Here is another possible scenario. Brian and Bruce agreed that they should re-sign Bengie in order to buy time and take pressure off Buster. Once Buster had shown he belonged and some of the initial pressure was off, the Giants traded Bengie, who had already served his purpose. One would assume the Giants had a plan for Buster and that Brian and Bruce came up with it somewhat together. Then why not trade Whiteside and keep Molina..doesn't that make the Giants better? I think Brian's decision was based on him feeling Posey would get less playing time if Molina were still around.
But, you're scenario might also make sense. They may have traded Molina out of respect for his wanting to still catch a lot of games.
And of course, the most likely scenario is all these things were considered by Brian before the decision was made.

By the way, I didn't like the move, and especially when we won the world series, I felt Molina was a big reason why we were there. The best moment of the World Series (besides us winning) was Molina getting cheered before the start of the first game, him motioning to his heart and the fans. He really should have been a part of the celebrations. Maybe this is thinking too far out of the box, but maybe once the Giants appeared like they were going to win, that the two GMs could have arranged a deal for Molina to be able to celebrate with the Giants.

Bengie was not going to be a happy camper watching Posey catch every day, and that is why Sabean felt it necessary to trade him. As for trading Bengie back to the Giants so he could celebrate with them, what? Bengie was angry with the Giants for trading him, he was certainly NOT going to celebrate losing the World Series to them, and since when do you do something like this for a player who just spent about four years with a team? Who is he, Willie Mays?
