I have to admit, Brett Pill looked ELEVENTEEN THOUSAND times better in LF than he did last year. He moved well on the ball. Certainly tons better than Burrell.
And now I read they are FINALLY letting Brett take ground balls at 3B with the idea of getting him some playing time there.
Didn't a few of us SUGGEST that very move... LAST YEAR/?
Yeah. We did.
Sometimes I do NOT understand the brain trust of the Giants.
The guy can hit LHP, and he's played there before.
The way Fatso gets hurt, you NEED someone with pop who can play there.

Boagie- There was ONE play against the wall that Pill couldn't make the play, and people on this board beat him up, and it was hard enough a play that he didn't even get charged with an error. I don't recall thinking Pill was EVER a below average left fielder. He has quick feet, good hands and displayed to me that he can easily play LF.
As for Burrell, he too showed not to be a liability in LF...I don't recall any play in 2010 where I felt he shouldn't be out there. 2011 is a different story, his foot injury really hurt his range.

And I suggested Pill learn to play third base during the 2011 season. I'm surprised more players don't concentrate on learning new positions, it only increases your value as a bench player. How nice would it be if someone like Pill or Arias could also be a serviceable backup catcher. Or if Blanco could also play some second base.

Allen- Blanco throws left handed. Could make playing second a tad awkward.

The problem with Pill though is that he's yet to prove he can hit well enough to stay in the major leagues. Why try and create positions for him if he isn't good enough to stick?

Boagie- good point, Allen, but as I'm sure you know I was just generalizing. I threw Blanco's name out there because he is a bench player. Blanco actually has met my expectations for a bench player because he can play ALL 3 outfield positions. Arias also meets my expectations because he can play 3rd, SS, 2nd and 1st..and outfield in a pinch. Pill on the otherhand is more limited, however, I do believe he could play 2nd and 3rd if needed.

I agree with Mark here. he hasn't hit well enough to warrant significant playing time at any position. You could have thrown Torres out there instead of Blanco.
