The Giants have apparently signed former Dodger Ted Lilly to a minor league deal. Huh? Unless there's some need for a lousy, injured, lefty at Fresno, I have no idea what this is about. Maybe another deal is coming.

Surprised you didn't hear the later news, that Lilly failed the physical and the Giants didn't sign him. That came out pretty quickly afterwards. If I had to predict the reason for signing him, (if they had) i would think with them out of it, they are thinking to expand the rotation so that Cain and Bumgarner don't pitch too many innings and are well rested for next season.

I do believe the deal fell through for some unexplained reason...but a minor league deal is pretty unsubstantial...it's pretty much the same as inviting someone to ST without a contract. No risk. Maybe Lilly decided he didnt want to pitch in front of his family in Fresno as a Grizzly

I saw on the crawl on MLB network that they had signed him. That was about 10 minutes ago.

I guess. They usually keep those things pretty current. At any rate, I'm relieved that they didn't sign Lilly.

It was just going to be a minor league deal anyway. He would have made a few late season starts in the attempt to impress the Giants or other teams for 2014. It would also give the Giants a chance to shut down one if their starters who have thrown alot of innings this year. I think the Giants can do that with Kickham and Surkamp anyway.
