Threw 40 pitches off the mound and 40 more against live hitters Saturday. Reports no pain in his hand and no pain in his arm. They say he will be on schedule to return around August 9th if all goes well.

That long? That's 20 days from now.

So who do you sit when he comes back? I vote for Zito.

20 days is basically to build arm strength and to make sure the bones are strong enough to handle a return to the rotation. This is like another Spring Training for Vogey.
Zito would probably be the choice now, especially with Affeldt likely headed back to the DL...but a lot can happen in 20 days. We shall see

If Ryan can come back by August 9th, that will be pretty good. It would give him time for three rehab starts -- perhaps one at San Jose, one at Richmond and one at Freson.

Here's one. The Giants are playing a double header Tuesday. In one game they will wear the road grays in one of the games. Zito is scheduled to pitch that day. Wouldn't it make sense to pitch Barry in the game where we wear the home unis.

Boagie- I might be wrong but I didn't think they sent players to rehab in Richmond.

Boagie- I might be wrong but I didn't think they sent players to rehab in Richmond. Rog -- I haven't seen that either, but it was mentioned the other night. I presumed it would coincide with a Giants road trip back East. Looking it up, Ryan would likely pitch on July 30th, while the Giants are playing at Philadelphia. Remember how I have commented that when something seems wrong or unusual, it is better to look at what might be coming into play that initially wouldn't be considered, Boagie? This is an example of such a situation. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1904&page=1#12899#ixzz2ZoTre9Nt
