I didn't get to see last night's game on t.v. but I caught the last few innings watching game day online. In the 9th I noticed we had 2 runners on 1st and 2nd. Juan Perez was up in a situation where I thought for sure they'd be sacrificing. Perez made an out without the runners advancing. Did he just fail to get one down, or was he not even asked to?

Juan fouled off a bunt attempt (a nice bunt down the third base line that was maybe a couple of feet foul. Then he took strike two while squared to bunt. He then swung with two strikes, but was unproductive.
The sacrifice with runners on first and second is the one with the most to gain, and I like doing so with a fast batter, who can put pressure on the defense. But part of the decision should be how well the batter can but, and to a lesser extent, how well he can hit with two strikes.
The only thing I know about Juan's bunting is that he has 13 sacrifices in 4+ seasons in the minors. Don't know if that was because he wasn't good at it or simply because he wasn't often asked to bunt.
