Hey whatever happened to superstud Cole Gillespie? He was supposed to be the Giants best option for 5th outfielder coming out of ST, even though he was nothing more than a AAAA player with no success at all at the big league level to point to. The guy he was competing with in Scottsdale, Peguero, hasnt done much with the big club either although the Giants did bring up Francisco, not Cole, or even Roger Keischnick who is having a solid year. But Gillespie is doing pretty much what i figured he would. Decent AAA numbers but nothing to write home about.

Gillespie hasn't fared quite as well as I expected, but the Giants still don't have a proven 5th (now 4th) outfielder. Juan Perez has done the best of the group.
Kieschnick actually has the highest OPS of the outfielders presently at Fresno, but he also strikes out every 3 1/2 at bats. Peguero has hit for average, but hasn't drawn walks or hit for power. Gillespie has been the most balanced of the crew.
If I had to go with one guy for now though, it would probably be Peguero, who has the best speed and is the best defensively of the trio.
Intriguing that of the three players I specifically recall Bobby Evans mentioning in a favorable roster context, Chad Gaudin and Tony Abreu have made it, while Gillespie hasn't.
Then again, we're talking about a FIFTH outfielder.
The one thing I do like best about Gillespie is that as a pinch hitter, he seems to easily be the best combination of power and the ability to get on base without getting a hit.
None of the trio has much chance of helping the Giants out a lot. If Kieschnick could ever learn to make contact, he does have power and therefore probably the most potential among the trio.
I just don't think Roger will fulfill his potential. Gotta put the ball in play more to do so.

By the way, I believe the difference between Chad Gaudin and Scott Proctor has turned out to be greater than the difference between Cole Gillespie and Francisco Peguero.
After posting an 8.59 ERA in AAA, Proctor retired a month ago.
