This season Brandon Belt could well become the most improved player in the game. He is looking like a better-balanced, more confident hitter, and his excellent defense keeps developing.
This year Bryce Harper may well become the super star he is predicted to be, so Brandon will have competition. Other candidates -- wouldn't Tim Lincecum be a great one! -- will likely materialize, but Belt has a shot at leading the group.
He also may be getting closer and closer to batting third in the lineup. Bruce Bochy has said he would feel OK hitting Brandon third or even fourth.
It has taken Belt a long time to reach his considerable potential. Perhaps the third time will be the charm.
If it is, the Giants should have their first baseman for the next decade and perhaps another lifetime Giant. And a guy who except for position, could possibly battle Buster Posey for best player on the team.
Brandon still has a way to go to reach that lofty status, but as Randy will tell us, he has the potential to do so. Belt is a player who has performed better than it has appeared, and it looks like he has finally arrived.

Allen- Belt is all of 24. It hasn't taken him that long.

Rog -- For a potential star and at least a su or sup star, two years in the majors is a long time to develop. Perhaps we'll look back and say it was only a season and two-thirds, that Brandon broke out in August of last season. Even at a season and two-thirds, Belt has taken a lot longer than Pablo Sandoval or Buster Posey. I'd say Pablo has yet to fully develop. He can't stay healthy. He hasn't played 120 games in either of the last two years, and may start this season on the DL. Some guys are can't miss, some guys take a little longer. Tony Perez and Ernie Banks are two guys I can think of who broke out when they were around Brandon's age.

Pablo is now considered more likely to start the opener. If there is any doubt, I would think the Giants would put him on the disabled list, since he would have to miss only the first four games.
Although I suppose it is the type of injury that could flare up at any time, the situation seems to be getting better.
Perhaps it is merely semantics, but I would say that Pablo IS at least very close to being fully developed. Not being able to play due to injury could delay a player's development, but Pablo was a wonderful hitter from the day he arrived in the bigs.
Pablo still has a way to go with his maturity development, but as a baseball player, he has been precocious.
