Yesterday's signing of Andres Torres would seem to indicate the Giants couldn't afford more to fill in their outfield. That might not be the case.
Torres was apparently signed after the Giants passed on Cody Ross, Scott Hairston and Reed Johnson because each wanted starters money or was defensively deficient. Note that each was a right-handed hitting outfielder.
But the Giants were also said as recently as Wednesday to have offered Ichiro Suzuki a 2/$15 contract. Ichiro bats left-handed, and the money suggests he would have been signed as a starter.
This would suggest that if the Giants could find a player they considered to be a starting corner outfielder for them, they still have more money to spend.
I have mixed feelings about Ichiro -- always have, for a player who will be going to the Hall of Fame without having to buy a ticket -- but he would certainly have fit the Giants' outfield mode of speed and defense.

Tori Hunter would have been a great pick up...he is not what he once was but a good player and a very good representive in the community...signed by the Tigers...

Don -- Tori Hunter would have been a great pick up...he is not what he once was but a good player and a very good representive in the community...signed by the Tigers... Rog -- Most consider Torii to be a good signing due to the short nature of his two-year contract. Certainly his .313 average last season was impressive. But Torii also struck out at a career-high rate and walked close to his career-low rate. Whereas he walked half as often in 2011 as he struck out, he did so only 30% as often in 2012. He batted .313 only because of his non-repeatable .389 Batting Average on Balls In Play. That compares, by the way, with a .307 career BABIP. Bill James projects him similarly in 2013 to Torii's 2011 season, when he posted a .765 OPS. At Torii's age 37, I'm not as sold on the signing as most. On the other hand, had the Giants not traded for Hunter Pence last summer, I wouldn't have been surprised if they had indeed signed Torii this winter. As it was, I just don't think they felt they had the money to do so. They instead prioritized re-signing Affeldt, Pagan and Scutaro.
