stumbled on to new threads...and I don't remember how I did it I would like to ask anyone if they like the fact that teams can beat trade deadlines by trading for a player to be named later.....at the Sep. 1 deadline, this can allow a contending team to carry 2 established players until the end of the season and then the other established player is named later......of course they have to get rid of a player off the 25 and 40 man roster...but that is usually accomplished by farming out someone from the 25 roster and putting someone on the 40 man roster on the 60 day DL...they are now approaching the deadline for freezing the roster before the Rule5 draft and teams have been trading players for the famous "Guy named Later"

Don -- I would like to ask anyone if they like the fact that teams can beat trade deadlines by trading for a player to be named later.....at the Sep. 1 deadline, this can allow a contending team to carry 2 established players until the end of the season and then the other established player is named later... Rog -- It all depends on how one looks at it. In terms of leveling the field to make the postseason, it would make sense to allow no trades once the season starts -- with possible exceptions for teams with a player who will miss a significant amount of time (perhaps for players who are put on the 60-day disabled list. In terms of what benefits both parties in the trade, both teams can benefit, since they have diffferent objectives. As for the player to be named aspect, I don't have a problem with it as long as teams are being allowed to acquire new players right up until the end of the season. In other words, if a team wants a specific player, that team has to take possession of him prior to the Rule 5 draft -- or else risk not having him be available for them to receive in the original trade. I have no problem here. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1389&page=1#ixzz2Dm5rf3So
