He really crushed that ball last night, but he hit it in the only park where it wouldn't have gone out. That's as hot as you can get. Let's just hope he reports to training camp in this kind of shape.

Well said, Mark.
And his defense, IMHO, has been gold-glove-like since he dropped all of that weight.
Sure handed, and a rifle arm that's very accurate.

Yet is still often replaced late in games for defensive reasons. Things that make you go hmmmm. If Pablo gets his act together, reports to camp in shape and stays that way, maybe tries to learn at least some semblance of the strike zone, he'd be a very good to great player. No doubt he has the talent. He just keeps putting obstacles in his own path. And can't we do away with the word "haters"? Holding someone accountable is not hating them. If Pablo was in shape and performing to his talent level, I'd be all for him. Same with Lincecum, though Tim is definitely in shape.

I don't know why there's such a backlash against people who question Pablo's weight issues. We see now what player he is when he is dieting like Allen and I would like him to. When he's not that guy, he's fat, shows little range and ends up on the DL fairly regularly. So to answer your question Randy, no, when he's doing the things that make him good I don't want him sent away. The question for you however is, why are you so against him being what he is right now? You prefer him fat and on the DL?

I'm a big Panda fan, and I always want him to be a Giant, but let's be honest, he hurt the team this year by being out of shape. They're so terrible this year that an MVP year from Panda wouldn't have turned them into a contender, but that doesn't excuse him for his selfishness.

I don't think you can blame Pablo's bad year on either selfishness or being overweight...but if one is more true than it would be the latter. Pablo is quite possibly the best teammate in the Giants clubhouse. He would run through a brick wall for any one of his teammates and that's a fact. I think a lot of times fun-loving players like Pablo are mistaken for being selfish...not the case for number 48. He had a bad year and his injuries hurt both him and the team. Whether the injuries were directly related to his weight is highly debatable.

Dood - don't be daft, Boagie...of course I prefer him slim, healthy and productive, as we all do. One of the main sticking points to all of those advocating giving Pablo the heave ho is the lack of better options out on the market. If we have a guy with the talent Pablo has under contract for one more year, a "walk" year as they call them, why on earth would we want to trade him now and replace him with something less good or talented? I mean you won't get a much better convincing argument than the last two days of swings from Pablo. Why give some other team the benefit of Pablo's salary drive?

The fact that he doesn't take his job seriously enough to get in shape could be deemed selfish. Me? I think he's just immature and lacking in self discipline, which is part of being immature. Who said anything about trading him for someone less talented or not as good?
