Though we still haven't seen the September call ups, and the kids who'll get a chance in September, I thought I'd voice my impressions of what we've seen of the "new faces" so far.
In no particular order:
FRANCISCO PEGUERO-runs well, didn't get much of a chance at all, but I hope to see more.
LIKE-His speed and the fact that he makes a lot of contact.
DON'T- like-his high elbow, high bat set up. This causes a longer-than-necessary swing which leads to less consistent contact.
JUAN PEREZ-Outstanding defense, and runs well!
LIKE-Mke that LOVE his ability to run balls down! This kid is major league ready... on defense.
Nice arm, too!
DON'T LIKE-His approach at the plate. Next time you get to see him, watch his feet; it's almost like they 'shuffle' as he begins to swing. He needs to keep his body a lot more quiet to make more consistant contact.
MOSCOSO-Take a frickin' hike!
LIKE-decent to above average velocity
DON'T LIKE-Pretty much everything about him. Inconsistent control, works slower than dead people!
SANDY ROSARIO-Has had his moments, but I'll pass. He's just "another guy," nothing more in the pen.
Tell him bye-bye.
LIKE-Good to very good velocity at times.
DON'T LIKE-Inconsistent slider, and struggles to get out RHB. He's also slow to the plate and since he doesn't have Robb Nenn stuff, he can't afford that.
NICK NOONAN-Didn't see enough, and I'd like to see more.
LIKE-He's scrappy, and reminds me of Kevin Frandsen from the left side. Like his smooth, quick stroke. He'll never hit for power, but he could be a solid utility guy
DON'T LIKE-Can't think of a thing. He hasn't had enough playing time for me to have seen enough bad stuff
MICHAEL KICKHAM-I'd like to see more of him in September
LIKE-pretty good breaking stuff, and good enough fastball.
DON'T LIKE-His upright delivery. THAT is going to cause him arm problems as he acquires more innings. Right now, he's too inconsistent with his control.
YUSMERO PETIT-3 games is hardly enough to evaluate but so far, so good. "could be next year's Mota?" Maybe.
LIKE-His control. IN all three games he's shown great command
DON'T LIKE-Breaking stuff. Last night Krukow kept calling that 77 mph pitch a slider... it wasn't. Sliders DON'T drop10-15 mph off the fastball. Those were curveballs, and just so-so ones at that.
JEAN MACHI-He's had his moments. There was a time I thought he'd be closing when the season ened.
LIKE-His forkball and velocity and tenacity
DON'T LIKE-His inconsistency. He has the stuff, but...Mentally? I have doubts.
ROGER KIESCHNICK-Last night LONG BEFORE Krukow said it, I commented that he was taking harder, more aggressive swings than I've seen from him all year long.
Prior to last night, I'd seen enough. Now? Well, now, I'd like to see a little more. No, make that a LOT more of HIM, and a lot LESS of Blanco.
LIKE-Nothing, yet
DON'T LIKE-all of his swings BEFORE last night. They was slow, and he was NOT attacking the ball.
Regardless, I don't see him in the Giant's plan for next year unless he goes crazy in the next month.
Hope I didn't leave anyone out.
Look forward to your comments.
