2013-A Season of Disappointments

There are so many, it's hard to count.

But other than a complete TEAM failure, here are some of mine. And I don't pretend it's a complete list.

1-Cain-Dude! What the heck happened to you! You were one of the elite!

2-Pablo-A .260ish batting average? And 9... 9 freakin' homeruns? Are you serious?

You'd better work your over weight fanny off in the off season, fatso, because we expect one heck of a lot better from you.

3-Vogey-Yeah, he got hurt... but what the heck was wrong with him BEFORE that? We all weren't looking for the moon, be we expected a lot more from Vogey than what he gave us.

4-Torres-No one ever expected him to play this month, but NONE of us ever figured him to be THIS BAD in the outfield!

He had me thinking of Fast Freddy Lewis in LF and more than once!

5-Pence- Yeah, he's on my list. He did a nice job in RF, and he's hit for average... but what happened to his power? What happened to his ability to drive in runs in the clutch?

For me, all things considered, he's a disappointment.

6-Scutaro-No one, not even me, expected anywhere near what we got last year.

Since 2008, he's driven in 54 or more runs each and every year. This year, a sad 24. Now of COURSE you don't expect a lot of RBI's from a 2 hole guy... but his HISTORY says he's good at it.

With 24, even considering his injury, that's a disappointment.

7-Affeldt-Other than a few, short spurts, he just never got it in gear

8-Extended Injuries to key players;

As someone on the board, Boagie(?) pointed out, the loss of Paga was bad. The loss of Vogey was crippling! It killed the bullpen

You know what's curious...most of those players you name played in the WBC. While I'm not going to blame the season on the WBC solely, I will say the combination of going all the way through last October in the postseason and having to report early for ST this year to accomodate the WBC definitely was a big factor.

Just not our year. Sometimes, during the season, you're watching games and you see things happen that make you think it's your year. That long fly ball just reaches the stands, that 15 hopper just eludes the infielder, the opponent makes a big mistake at a key point, or you just get lucky,, like Pence hitting a bll three times, breaking his bat, and it goes for a key hit.
This year, the ball is caught on the warning track, the grounder turns into a double play, we make the key mistake, and the other team has the luck. You can't win every year.
Not that it's solely that, I think some complacency set in, and injuries have no doubt hurt us. The team needs to evolve more than a little, and probably rededicate itself as well.

You can't benefit from things going your way when you can't catch the ball, hit the ball, or pitch the ball. The Giants just played like sh*t, plain and simple.

I wasn't aware of that, Randy.

Bochy is already on record as saying that, in HIS opinion, the WBC did effect Vogey negatively.

I don't like when they play the thing.

The major league baseball season is more important.

But, I'm betting players would rather do that, than go to spring training.
