I didn't say I wanted to dump the guy. I just want him to get more serious about his job. The one he missed yesterday, he was looking at the ground when the pitch was thrown. I don't think you can have that out of a ML catcher. He admits to being out of shape. Is this something you would want out of a youngster who is supposedly trying to make the team? I would think someone in his position would be in optimum physical condition, and damn focused on the rare occasions he gets a chance. Granted, he's not likely to unseat Posey, but other teams could be watching. With his offensive potential, if he learned his position, he could start for alot of ML teams.

What Allen said, DK. He admitted that he's out of shape yesterday, and this could have led to these miscues. The Giants said he was out of shape the day he reported to spring training, and they haven't been happy with him. Maybe some of those mistakes you attribute to youth would be eliminated already if this guy was serious about conditioning and learning his craft.

dk..since Hector has only made 4 fielding errors (Other errors were on throws), than he must be trying to get too big a jump on guys trying to steal Rog -- Why do I get the feeling you wouldn't be saying the same thing if it were Buster who had committed the last four catcher's interferences -- or would be saying it in a way that wasn't an excuse but rather an indictment. No one is trying to dump Hector, Don. I don't think there is any need to overreact. Two interesting names. Edinson Volquez and Edgmer Escalona. Both have experienced recent hard times, no doubt. But, if cheap enough, both might be worth a look. Moreso, Escalona. He was doing well this year, had a couple of rough outings and hasn't been the same since. He makes $491K so it would be low risk.

I'm a Sanchez fan and would like to see him in there every day...he sets a faster rhythm to the game and I think he has the ability to hit with power...and I still think the hitters like him better than the other guy...

Rog -- Both these guys were designated for assignment, so it shouldn't take much to get them. Volquez will be eligible for free agency this winter, but Escalona isn't even arbitration-eligible for another year, and can't become a free agent for four. Escalona is just 26, while Volquez recently turned 30. Nice call, Allen! Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1953&page=3#14288#ixzz2d5VszArh

That's why unless I think the humor is really obvious, I usually use a funny face. And I'm speaking only from my point of view, Don, but you have said enough things that I deam outrageous, that you can make a funny remark that I simply think fits your regular pattern of criticism. By the DBacks. Jason Kubel. 31`years old. Lousy year this year, but hit 30 homers and drove in 90 runs in 2012. Only 89 games this year. Injuries? Can play corner outfield spots. I'd take a look.

I was surprised Kubel was dumped, he's been good for them. However, even in his good 2012 season his numbers were greatly ballpark aided. He had a .910 OPS at home and a .757 OPS on the road. Eighteen of those thirty homers were at home. That being said, the merely average road performance is a lot better than the Giants have gotten in LF this year, so I wouldn't say no to him, although I hope they do better than him next year.

I haven't really followed the Dbacks much this year. I'd like to know what happened to him. Was he injured? As a lefty, he's probably going to have trouble hitting alot of homers at AT&T, but we do play half our games on the road. Considering what we have in left and our lack of power, I think he'd be worth a look.

I'd certainly take a look at Kubel. The Giants may feel they should give the time to guys like Peguero and Kieschnick, but Kubel would seem to have the potential to be clearly better than either of the young Giants.
Four times Kubel has hit 20 or more homers; three times he has hit 30 or more doubles. Kubel is making a lot less frequent contact, but he does have an impressive line drive rate of 26%. I think his chances are at least as good as Jeff Franceour's were.

By the Red Sox. Hard throwing right hander Daniel Bard. Bard looked to have a good career as a closer going until Boston tried to make him a starter. Now he's pretty screwed up. Can't throw the ball over the plate. Something like 16 bb/9. Fairly cheap. If you think you can fix him, he might be worth a look. He can certainly throw hard.

I thought I read or heard that Francisco Peguero was DFA'd, but he's back with the Giants at the major league level, so perhaps I was wrong. Or, possibly he was DFA'd, cleared waivers, and was later reinstated on the 40-man roster.

I had not heard of Peguero being DFA'd, but the scenario you describe certainly could happen. If the player accepts a minor league assignment, then is called up later.

Peguero was never DFA'd. Pretty sure the Giants have not given up on him at this point. They do seem to like Juan Perez better at this point and so do I. I was glad to see him get a couple of hits and steal a base last night.

Rog -- I liked it when the Giants signed Petit as a minor league free agent, since I could remember his pitching some good games for the Diamondbacks. But, really, where did this COME from?
Not even looking at Petit's major league ERA of over 5.00 when he joined the Giants, his career ERA in AAA is 4.34.
What a shame the guy didn't get his perfect game Friday night. Did Chavez really have that good an eye, or was he frozen on the pitch that would have sealed the perfecto? And how eerily reminiscent was Chavez's line drive that just escaped the dive of Hunter Pence to the one caught by Pence to preserve Tim Lincecum's no-hitter?
Different type of play entirely, but Cain's perfect game was also saved by a diving catch. And what if after waiting well over a century for a perfect game by a Giants pitcher, they had received them in back-to-back seasons?
I am so, so sorry for Petit, but I hope he defies the odds and somehow uses this permanently as a springboard into the Giants' (or even someone else's) rotation and suddenly reaps some major league benefit.

Would have taken some of the sting out of this horrible season to have both Timmy's no hitter and Petit's perfecto to fondly look back on. For Petit, however, the result is the same. He's thrown himself seriously into next year's discussion. And don't discount the fact that Brian Sabean has long been a fan. I remember Sabean trying to trade for him years ago when he was with the Marlins. He was trying to give them Armando Benitez but when Benitez fell apart at the end, he had to settle for Randy Messenger. I remember Sabean being angry at the fans and media at the time too, because he felt the vocal and written abuse of Benitez brought down his trade value.
