Waite Hoyt, HOF pitcher and one tie Yankee, became a baseball broadcaster with Cincy (?)...used to tell this story about Jake Ruppert, Yankee owner in the old days and inducted into the HOF Sunday...Hoyt had a good season and went up to Ruppert's office to negotiate his contract...Ruppert also owned the Ruppert beer company and had pictures of all his breweries on his wall...Ho yt gave Ruppert's words with a heavy German accent...Hoyt said that Jake went from /picture to picture telling him where each brewery was and how much beer he made in each one...after going thru each picture, they sat down at Ruppert's desk and Jake asked him how much money he expected for next year...after Hoyt threw out a figure, Jake turned red in the face, and spurted out...Waite, do think that I am a millionaire?

Funny, DK. I bet owners like Ruppert would have a heart attack reading how much today's players are making. Imagine Charlie Comisky?

Hoyt became a broadcaster for the Reds, along with former outfielder Mike McCormick. I went to only one game at old Crosley Field, but we somehow got tickets right in front of Waite and McCormick.
Somehow used to get WONDERFUL tickets for the Bay Bridge series games in Oakland. Sat right beside Al Rosen one year.
If you want great seats on the cheap though, go to a San Jose Giants game. Every time I watched Tim Lincecum pitch in San Jose, Stockton and Fresno, I got tickets in the very low rows right behind the plate -- several times in the very first row.

I had good seats at Anaheim Stadium when the owner wasn't using them...first row right where the visiting players waited on deck...I tried to give Barry Bonds a scouting report on the reliever they were bringing in to face him...he wouldn't even look at me....the guy threw just as he told him...every thing up... ...
