The Giants have DL's Tony Abreu and sent down Kensuke Tanaka, opening up spots for Roger Kieschnick and Brett Pill.
Just a month or so ago both Kieschnick and Gary Brown were said to not be close to being ready for the show. With Kieschnick called up, perhaps Brown could be next.
Kieschnick is hitting .342 with a 1.103 OPS in his last 10 games and is at .316/.922 for July. Pill has hit well at Fresno all season long.

well, it's about time SOME changes were made. Not necessarily the ones I wanted but at least they see the lunacy of staying with the clods they had.

Randy -- well, it's about time SOME changes were made. Not necessarily the ones I wanted but at least they see the lunacy of staying with the clods they had. Rog -- Including Kieschnick, the Giants have now used 19 pitchers (including 8 starters), 3 catchers, 8 infielders and 9 outfielders this season. I would say they have made SOME changes. Counting Kieschnick, the Giants are within one player of the division average. The Giants have 13 hitters with 85 or more plate appearances, and 14 pitchers who have pitched in 20 or more games. The problem is that among the position players they have brought in, only Kensuke Tanaka and Tony Abreu have hit over .231. Once we get below Andres Torres and Joaquin Arias on the bench, it has been pretty awful. The pitchers who have come up or come off injury during the season have fared much better. I don't see how Brown could be next, seems like they're trying everyone EXCEPT Brown. Now if Hunter Pence gets traded before the deadline, perhaps, but I expect Brown to stay at Fresno until he figures it out.

It will be intriguing to see if he is brought up in September. He's not on the 40-man roster. On the other hand, I think he needs to be protected after this season lest he be eligible for the Rule V draft. It's no secret that I'm a big believer in Gary Brown's talent. I'm also realistic about how luke warm the Giants feel about him. But this was shocking news to me to hear that he is not even on the 40 man roster. I never figured him to be beneath guys like Keischnick and Peguero. I've seen those guys and niether showed a speck of the talent Gary Brown has. I'm having less and less confidence in the Giants development team every day--as if 28th out of 30 teams didn't show enough.
Heads need to roll...and maybe even hiring level heads.

Rog -- Not being on the Giants' 40-man roster isn't an affront to Gary Brown, not does it mean they don't value his talent. Gary Brown isn't on the Giants' 40-man roster because he doesn't NEED to be on it. Teams have an active roster of 25 players who must be on the 40-man roster. The same thing with disabled players, unless the players are moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day list. Because of his long injury, Angel Pagan isn't on the 40-man roster. Does that reflect that they don't want him? I believe Gary must be placed on the 40-man roster after this season, but right now there is no requirement that he be there. Placing him there and removing another prospect would subject the prospect to being lost to another team. Does Gary's 40-man roster situation make sense now? It doesn't really matter one way or the other right now. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1933&page=1#13292#ixzz2adNndvHy

Gary now hitting .239 after his 0 for 5 last night. Good thing he's in a hitter's league where the numbers are inflated! One bit of good news from San Jose, is that Kyle Crick opened the game with seven consecutive strikeouts, winding up with 11 in five innings. That kid will be special.

Dood - Careful, Rx...Rog will tell you soon that San Jose numbers mean squat...or wait, you did that yourself with your bit of sarcasm about Gary Brown...nevermind.

Rog -- I certainly don't think San Jose numbers mean squat. But it is highly important that a player come close to continuing them as he moves up toward the majors. Here is something else to think about, Randy. Mark is sometimes wrong, and I am sometimes wrong. But when we agree on something, the percentage is pretty darn good. By the way, I would say the same thing about you and me. But we seem to have been disagreeing a whole lot more that past year or so. The California league is similar to the PCL in that it's a hitter's league, which makes Crick's success even more impressive. It will be interesting to see what happens when he finally gets to Fresno.
