Randy -- If they "clean house" I can guarantee you will be happier than I will for at least a few years...maybe even another 50. Rog -- It's a bit hard to see how the Giants' off-season moves this season will impact them 50 years from now. Even in the short run, wouldn't it depend on HOW they clean house? One could say the Dodgers have cleaned house the past season. How's it working out for them now? Doesn't it all start with a plan? Let's look at the questions the Giants may face this off-season: . How do you update the starting pitching, where two starters will quite likely be gone? . How do you fill in an outfield that is presently made up of a left field platoon, an injured center fielder, and a right fielder who can become a free agent? . Do you move an important piece such as Pablo Sandoval or Brandon Belt in order to shake things up? Doesn't it all start with a plan to answer these questions in a way that fits together -- regardless of whether that means standing pat or blowing things up? Shouldn't the Giants focus on the RESULT, not how they get there? Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1925&page=1#13218#ixzz2aMohUcUm

Dood - the house the Dodgers were cleaning was considerably more cluttered with junk. The Giants have a roster filled with WS winners, most of whom have either been injured this year or underachieving.
Do the Giants need a complete home makeover or do they just need what they have to be polished up some with maybe one or two additions? Once you knock down the foundation, it's going to be a long rebuilding process and you never really know if what you end up with will be anywhere approaching the quality of what you replaced.

Rog -- So you're saying that the potential for results from a Giants house cleaning might be even better than the fine job the Dodgers have done? Randy -- Do the Giants need a complete home makeover or do they just need what they have to be polished up some with maybe one or two additions? Rog -- The Giants may need two new starting pitchers and as many as two outfielders (although they might be able to re-sign Hunter Pence). Randy -- Once you knock down the foundation, it's going to be a long rebuilding process and you never really know if what you end up with will be anywhere approaching the quality of what you replaced. Rog -- I would say the foundation is Posey, Bumgarner and Cain. I don't think any of that foundation is going anywhere. Nor Ryan Vogelsong, Sergie Romo, Marco Scutaro or Brandon Crawford. That's over a quarter of the roster, and I'll bet at least another 8 to 10 players are back. The Giants may be cleaning out a couple of rooms more so than rebuilding the foundation.
