I think all of us should be.
Everyone has a bad outting or two, but what's been going on with Matty this year is, to me, baffleing.
Frankly, I'm simply not buying into that "too many innings" crap, because IMHO, that's what it is; crap.
I hope Righetti can figure out what's wrong because though this year "may" already be in the toilet, his career should not be.

After today's game (in which Matt was removed in the first inning) I think there may be some type of injury that Matt may have been trying to pitch through.

Dead arm, shut him down.
---boly says---
Boagie, having pitched for a long time, I can say that the symptoms Cain is displaying are not "dead arm" syndrome.
Every year I went through that period, and believe me, you can still pitch and throw strikes. A lot of strikes.
Problem is, the ball has no "life" to it. Little movement to the fastball, little break to the curve ball.
My money is on something else; I think he's out of 'sync' with his mechanics.
When I first got to college, I started the 2nd game of the season.
Problem was, a week before, I had slept in an awkward position, gotten a stiff arm, and, while pitching, made some unknown-to-me body changes in my delivery.
Suddenly, I couldn't throw strikes.
I was way out of whack.
In the first start, I got 2 outs, the longest of which was a blast to the 390 mark in left center field.
I was demoted, and got only one more chance to pitch that year.
Thing is, about 3 weeks after it happened my then girlfriend-now-wife, Candee, was the one who saw what was wrong and helped me fix it.
At the top of my delivery, I was "out of balance."
She was a dancer in the Juliette Prowse style of dancing.
She walked me through a series of balances moves that they had to do and de repente (suddenly!), it all came back!
A poster made the comment over a month ago that he looked to be "slinging" the ball.
Since then, I've been watching him closely, and I agree; he's doing more slinging than pitching; a point I'm SURE Righetti has seen
A pitcher does not, "all-of-a-sudden" struggle with the strike zone when his mechanics are simple and smooth like Matty's are.
If he's not hurt, and he swears he isn't, it HAS TO BE in his mechanics.
I'm asking Don to chime in here, since he, too, pitched for a long time.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Cain's arm isn't dead. His "stuff" is no different and the training staff and Cain himself confirm that nothing physically is wrong. I don't know if it's the extra work or not. I think Casilla may have been the victim of that since he basically had no break at all, playing winter ball and in the WBC.
Personally...I think with the contract security and the team winning its second WS in 3 years and all the Perfect Game fame, Matt lost a bit of his edge. He just needs to get motivated to be the machine he once was, and I believe he will be again. It's only a matter of when.
Short term we all should be concerned about Cain's inaccuracy...but I'm not concerned at all that this will be a problem that dogs him all through his big contract. Sooner or later, Matt will be back "IN wack" as Kuiper puts it. The horse will be fine.

dk...thanks for the complement, but I had the worse mechanics as a pitcher as I never had a pitching coach and my girlfriend wasn't a dancer.
I actually mentioned that Cain was throwing a lot of balls in the dirt and they were coming right back to the catcher, which could mean he isn't getting any snap or spin on the ball....with all the modern equipment you would think they could put Matt's latest delivery on top of his no-hit game delivery and see if they notice any big difference...also, check his grip and see whether that has changed.....the other factors are tipping his pitches, developing a predictable chain of pitches , ie. fast ball in always followed with breaking ball away...and the catchers have to start setting up too early for the outside pitch......in my opinion, Posey sets up too wide, too early...the Giants, even some of theor pitchers, gave a lot of credit to Posey when the pitching was good, now they should look at him when the pitching isn't as good as it was....
