There certainly hasn't been much good to talk about with the Giants lately. But there has been at least one positive: The starting pitching is finally coming around.
Despite the travails of Mike Kickman while taking the place of the injured Ryan Vogelsong and Chad Gaudin, the Giants' starters forged a 3.87 ERA in June. Not quite back to their high standards, but better than their 4.15 in April and far better than the 5.44 in May.
Tim Lincecum still isn't able to pitch consistently, but he seems to be more and more mastering the art of varying his pitches. If he can just sustain it, or the Giants can keep his leash shorter.
Gaudin will take his turn on Saturday, and it would seem Vogelsong will be back later this month. So the health of the rotation is improving along with its performance.
And, yeah, while the Giants were probably hitting over their heads earlier, they'll hit again. Pablo Sandoval has historically struggled after missing time to injury, but he eventually does bounce back, as evidenced by his three homers in the opening game of last year's World Series.
