We've been talking for a few weeks now about the Dodgers' outfield prospect Yasiel Puig. Another guy we should be talking about is Reds' prospect Billy Hamilton.
Hamilton stole 55 bases in the minor leagues last season. That's pretty darn good. That he did so AFTER he had already stolen 100 makes it mind-boggling.
It was in High A and AA, but last season his OBP was .410 -- and he stole the heck out of the bases once he got on. Former big leaguer Darnell Coles says Hamilton is faster than Bo Jackson and faster than Deon Sanders.
This year Hamilton is hitting .421 in AAA. That's in only five game though, so the sample size is very small. But, oh, he's stolen six bases in those five games.
The past three-plus seasons, Hamilton has stolen:
. 2010 -- 48 out of 57 in 69 games.
. 2011 -- 103 out of 123 in 135 games.
. 2012 -- 155 out of 192 in 132 games.
. 2013 -- 6 out of 7 in 5 games.
I would hate to see Billy on first base with Tim Lincecum pitching and Hector Sanchez catching. And it may not be too long before we do.

By the way, the Reds have moved Hamilton from shortstop to center field. Think he'll have any range out there? Hamilton is playing at AAA Louisville this season -- for now.

I think I mentioned that last week I read the Dusty Baker stole 2nd, 3rd and home for the Giants in one trip around the bases. Think he'll enjoy having a guy like Hamilton around to go 90 feet at a time?
