Cepeda and Stretch were back to back rookies but I'll tell ya, Jack...Sanford led the way in '62

Good stuff, Randy.
Sanford was really good in 1962, but he was one of four starters with an ERA between 3.36 (Juan Marichal) and Billy O'Dell (3.53). Sanford posted a 3.43 ERA, and Billy Pierce came in at 3.49.
The key to the 1962 season was Willie Mays. Three times Willie came to the plate with the season on the line. He homered to left (regular season), singled up the middle (playoffs), and doubled to right (World Series). The first two hits were involved in game-winning innings, while the double resulted in Willie McCovey's famous line out.
