Loved the home runs, That is for sure!
But I have also loved two other important things
Firstly the velocity off the bat
Secondly the ability to hit with runners in scoring position
It is way too early to evaluate this team, But from the first there is a different feel to this group
Last year the team was a collection of pieces that didn't really fit together
This year is different
Like I said it has a different feel
And I thought that during the first game not after the first win

There is a bit of a swagger to this team. The Padres kept coming back the last two games. Last year the Giants would have crumbled in the situation. This year, they are stepping up.

Something is different, that's for sure.
Personally, I BELIEVE it's leadership and how the players feel about the guy pulling the strings.
Boagie mentioned how Hanniger kept getting platooned last year when he shouldn't have been.
Got me to thinking that players might have been/probably WERE always looking over their shoulder waiting to get pulled.
Any way I slice this one, from a PLAYER'S PERSPECTIVE, that shows a lack of confidence in the player.
And it showed, IMHO.

Conforto is the big question mark, is he going to start the season off well and fizzle out like he did last year? Only time will tell.
The offense is certainly firing on all cylinders, but the pitching has given up way too many runs for my comfort.

Good question, boagie.
Last year he was injured, it seemed, about every 25 at bats.
A couple of things here.
1-Am I the only one who thinks Conforto is slimmer and trimmer?
2-Last year, with Hanniger down, the power of the offense fell on his shoulders.
Seems to me he buckled under the pressure of having to be THE guy.
With Soler and Chapman a ton of that pressure is taken off.
Now, let's see how he responds.
So far, so good.

Conforto is in better shape this year. It was pretty obvious that Conforto was still recovering from his injury in 2023 and he is playing for his big contract this season (Scott Boras client). Its not the pressure of being the guy but more that he is finally healthy.

Okay...I guess, Reed.
But I'm opting for a combination of both.
I saw him a bit as a Met and I just don't remember him being that clutch of a guy.
But he has power, and he can hit.
