To me it's just more bad news on top of more bad news if we don't get Yamamoto. Blake Snell has been too inconsistent over the years, big ones and then ones where he walks the planet. No thank you to me he's Carlos rodone part 2

And what I mean by that is he plays for himself not the team

Will Clark's Opinion
Love Will Clark's take. Like Rik Flair says, If you want to be the man, you've got to beat the man. Wooo.

I love will clark! I respect his opinion! But if we don't get some pitching we're not going to be beating anybody!

I love will clark! I respect his opinion! But if we don't get some pitching we're not going to be beating anybody! The main thing is attitude, and this goes back to the Roger Craig days. If you don't like the ballpark you play in, the visitors don't like it either and you gotta make it work for you. They can't go into seasons or games going through the motions or expecting to lose. FZ has been an "it is what it is" type of GM but with Buster on board, there's been a subtle paradigm shift. The Giants can't just react to problems, they are now tasked with doing something about it.

All true. It remains to be seen if Buster can make a difference. I pray that he will make a difference, I really do.

Yamamoto - I could be wrong but I do agree this is a piece we need to complete the puzzle.
Honestly I'd have our scouts at all levels seriously looking for the next big arm. Period.

Will sounds like he had a few drinks in that video, but his first comment was correct. Paying 700 million for a DH (that just had surgery on his elbow) is not a sound investment. When was the last time a huge contract like that paid off for a team?
The Giants can beat the Dodgers IF they allow their prospects to develop and if they make good investments. I believe Lee was a good investment. He's only 25 so he's still in his prime. Now they need to make good pitching investments. Not overpay for players whose best days are likely behind them.

I agree with you! We needed position player, a center fielder, and we went and got a good one.
I also agree that the next step is to let the kids develop!
And finally, and as important as anything else we need to get another starter stud and then fill in the rest of the slots of the rotation, after cobb, with two of Our Own kids!

I like the Lee contract by itself, but at the same time, I don't want it to logjam Matos in AAA. We need to dump some players to make room for both Matos and perhaps Ramos.
I'd like to see Bart as the backup catcher. I want to see Luciano starting at shortstop and Schmitt at 3rd. But I question whether any of this is the plan out of spring training.

We are thinking in saying the same thing! Especially the part about giving the kids a chance, and dumping some older players. I've been hoping that we can find a taker for Michael conforto or Mitch haniger, and if not both of them maybe just one.
Then again, as always say, I do not trust FZ

IF the rest of the free agency is used to fortify starting pitching, it should be good enough. Chapman, Bellinger, and Snell declined their qualifying offer so signing them would cost a compensatory draft pick and international bonus pool money. Those three are marginal upgrades and not worth the years, money, or loss of picks. They probably have to dump at least one of the outfielders somehow to make room for Lee but I suspect at least one of them will end up on the IL to start the season just because four of them love playing the hokey pokey with the IL. I would like to see as many kids out of the gate as possible when they break from spring training but they have to step up and earn it. The kids deserve first shot. Hopefully the Cubs or Blue Jays take Bellinger off the board so the Giants would not be tempted.

Next useless signing is Tom Murphy. Slightly better hitter but sucks defensively. I don't understand this one. They could have used Joey Bart here unless it seems they have totally given up on him. Murphy has a little pop in a small sample size, strikes out a lot, and is the Mitch Haniger of catchers (injury prone). This guy is so useless looking that FZ has already traded him away once after being a Giant for four days. I think they're setting up a bundle trade which includes Bart. Typical Zaidi to trade away a guy in 2019 and sign him back to 2yr/$8.25 million. Churn away.

He's living up to his Legend; stupid! Last week I mentioned Wynns and Perez in jest but those two would have been better defensively and would have accomplished the same thing for less money. In two seasons, he has 200 ABs because he kept getting injured. It is a self inflicted small sample size.

All great points. But I have a question where is Buster and any comments he might make or any leadership he might show on this issue?
Think he might know anything about catching?

The Murphy signing makes zero sense. As Reed pointed out, we already have Bart, and we also have Sabol too. Another pointless signing just to convince someone that Farhan isn't asleep.

Now they got TJ Hopkins, who is redundant because they have Slater. Fitzgerald, Ramos, and Haniger. i mean, WTF. This does not even help the bottom of the 40 man roster.

Right hand hitting OF just dfa by Reds. At most, Hopkins is a AAA depth piece. This is a bad look in that they are dumpster diving while other teams are making high impact moves. This accomplishes nothing. FZ loves to throw these fringe players into the churn and see if they stick or not. With the logjam in the outfield, his chances of making the team are remote and they will have to sneak him through waivers to get him into AAA. I realize there is no risk but they have better players in the minors in the organization.
Dodgers trade for Glasnow, we get Murphy and Hopkins.

Murphy is not intended as a platoon piece. He's a backup catcher who they just spent $8 million on. They could have gone with Bart, Sabol, Wynns, etc and spent that on pitching. These latest pickups are not diamonds in the rough by any stretch. They do not elevate the floor of the team. It is a bunch of flailing.

That was the one place we couldn't let him go. So basically, because of management, we took it up to shorts again. Or they can say what they want about San Francisco not being a place to hit home runs for left-handed bats and so forth, but I'm going to consider this a management failure. And if we lose out on Yamamoto and the Korean Center fielder, I'm going to feel that way even more so. Looks like you're abyss is something we are no longer staring in, it's here, and we're in it. I have to give them credit for not biting on the Boras clients and not signing junk players like Stripling 2.0. Feels like they looked into the abyss and didn’t like what they saw.

And I don't believe he's done with this years "catch" there.

I am hearing that they are likely not to go after more pitching. They did not jump in on Lorenzen and Paxton which would indicate to me they are going to go with Webb, Harrison, Hicks, Stripling, and one of the kids. I am okay with that and it shows they are not eager to make a stupid rejection pivot even though they lost out on Ohtani and Yamamoto.
