1st and foremost, this team needs starting pitching: PERIOD.
1-Starting Pitching
a-Resign Cobb
b-Have Harrison with us from the get go next year
c-Sign REAL STARTERS, Not retreads like Manaea and Stripling. No more going on the cheap!
2-Shortstop
I LOVE Brandon Crawford, but I believe he's done.
a-He has struggled mightily at the plate all year long
b-His defense is NOT even close to what it was.
3-Don't resign JD Davis.
a-The guy is a walking DP machine
b-Though he plays good defense at 3B, He's a powerful bat, but his prolonged slumps hurt more than his power helps. And 18 HRs for a guy with HIS power, AIN'T gettin' it done!
4-Let Joc Walk
a-By this point, this guy should have 20+ Hrs.
b-But he's hitting .240ish with 14 HRs and NOT nearly enough RBIs.
c-He's an RBI guy who AIN'T drivin' in runs.
5-Keep Wilmer
a-The guy is a professional in every sense of the word. He's great role model for the youngsters
6-I hate to say it, but it's time for Yaz to go. I love his speed, defense and attitude, but...
a-Prolonged slumps
b-Too many pop ups and DP ground balls
c-He's a guy with 20+ HR potential, who might have done that HAD he stayed healthy.
7-WE MUST GET FASTER!! I simply can't say that enough!
This team, especially with a nugget-head like Kapler in charge, is station to station.
Look at what the teams who run and steal bases can do!
AZ saw that need a couple of years ago and addressed it.
Our hosers did not.
What FZ promised, that we would get more athletic, was either rhetoric, or an outright lie.
8-Tyler Rogers time to go is here.
I'm not sure if I'm totally, correct, but I'm close.
In most, if not all of his last 8- 10 appearances, he's been scored on.
9-The bullpen needs to be retooled.
I'd keep Doval, OBVIOUSLY!, and Walker and likely Brebbia.
But both Rodgers, Alexander and Wood cannot stay.
10-This one is just a pipe dream, but it IS what I would do IF I was ownership.
a-Admit I blew it, and dump both FZ and Kapler.

Bullpen gets a bit of a pass because the stupid TBD games wore out the bullpen. Surprise, surprise, surprise!

I guess you can't have enough slow underperforming 240 hitters who can't even hit 20 home runs.

Around the Foghorn recently ran a piece listng five candidates to replace Kapler. Two we already know: Kai Correa and Walt Weiss. Three others are Mansolito (Orioles), Linares (Rays), and Lombard (Tigers). Looking at this short list, Correa is at the bottom because he is mini-me to Kapler and probably shoud also get canned along with Kapler. Mansolito supposedly is good with young players and might be a good fit with all the youth coming up through the system. Lombard is an ex=Dodger who supposedly is balanced at using old school and analytics and was good at developing baserunning and defense (the biggest weaknesses on the Giants). Linares is good with developing international players. Lombard is likely to be in high demand and it might be in their interest to cut Kapler loose one year early to get Lombard.

Reed. Why is the Foghorn speculating like that?
Is there at least a rumor that Kapler MIGHT be out?
Lord, I hope so!
He's a bad manager, and he's proven it with now two clubs.
He consistently mismanages his pitching staff, and he's proved it with now two clubs.
His concept of match ups PREVENTS players from wanting to come here!
No one of ANY stature wants to be platooned.
That's a lot of things to be screwing up!

Ownership has gone on record saying Heckle and Jeckle will be back next season but I'm hoping a real big faceplant might expedite things. Lombard might be good enough to get Kapler out the door sooner otherwise he'll be snapped up by someone else, supposedly he's that good. Most of the proposed candidates except for Weiss are familiar with analytics but I think they don't worship their sabermetric idols as much as Kapler does.
Athletic said today that Giants fanbase are "livid" and not just mad. They are blaming a lot of that on the pandemic but I'm livid because ownership is arrogant and management is arrogant, insane, and too darn stupid to learn from their mistakes. I would not be so mad at them if someone owned up but they don't own up to their mistakes one bit. There's too much blind faith in flawed methodology no mentions of making any tweaks or adjustments.

I have not heard any rumors but I realized that this last bad spell has lost over 17 games off the pace. If it gets really embarrassing, they may want to reconsider.

Kapler was 20-36 In Philadelphia in September and that got him fired with one year left on his contract. He was fired by the owner. Right now, current record is 5-26 since July 19 which is unacceptable any way we look at it. If they lose 8 more games, I think they would have no choice or have to do some serious backpedaling.
Phillies owner actually flew out to California to deliver the news to him when he was fired from the Phillies. Its pretty obvious that the Giants' September collapse is a lot worse than the ones he had in Philadelphia.
“Those September collapses,” said Middleton in a press conference announcing the firing, a reference to the Phillies’ 20-36 record in September during Kapler’s two seasons. “I kept bumping up against them. I couldn’t get comfortable or confident enough that if I brought him back, we wouldn’t run into other problems. Therefore I made the decision I did.”
Seems like Middleton was alluding to other problems beside the W-L record.

So basically, barring a miracle Heckle and Jeckle are back next year. Swell I know some of you might find it hard to root against the Giants but ownership will be less inclined to think there is a problem if they win some of these last few games. Nothing short of a total collapse would open their eyes.

But I want to see MORE, much MORE of the kids.
Loved seeing Tyler last night, as well as Marco!
Sit that waste of space JD down, bring up Casey and let him play.

Kapler stated he will put out the lineup which has the best chance of winning. If all kids lineup, so be it. The defensive lapses last night were JD and Yaz so there.

One comment I read in the Athletic I did not think about before. The analytics that he uses is a pre-calculated formula and if the team fails, its not the fault of Kapler, it is the fault of the players for not executing. No accountability. I think its weak to blame the players. If all that Kapler does is to parrot whatever is said on the device, why bother with a manager?

Seemed to be a bit of tension after the replay challenge last night. Maybe all not well between Kapler and Correa.

Problem is most of the kids bat RH so they can't dump all their LH. Probably offer arb to Yaz, low AAV to Joc, and dump Slater. Not the ideal option but the FA class is really thin. Here's a weird option, have the kids learn to hit both kinds of pitchers. I am thinking, next year at this time, our posts will be livid about the exact same things.

Baggarly wrote this morning that Joc and some other players were brushing off the losses but were fanatics about a Filipino card game called Pusoy. Also, one player who was unnamed complained that they were playing Marley music after a loss. Don’t worry ’bout a thing. ‘Cause every little thing is gonna be all right. The unnamed player did not say who was playing the music but if it was bothering some people, it is not cool. I get that a team sometimes needs to not get too down or to stay loose but if they pay more attention to Pusoy or Marley more than their jobs, then they are not welcome. Webb is the only one who is going to be here past 2025 so his comments should set the tone. Joc should be gone, even if he offers a discount. We have tolerated his clown act for two years and enough is enough. They may need to clean out whoever was blowing off the losses. I can't figure out who would be doing that because most of the rest do not have the clown reputation that Joc has. I do know that the team as a whole is heavy on fantasy football and that includes FZ and clubhouse staff. The job of playing ball comes first; when I was at work, work came first and all the other stuff like the chatting, socializing, and music got turned off when it got busy. If coaches and clubhouse staff were farting around like this, they probably need to get rid of them.

The main guys who were playing fantasy football last year were Joc, Yaz, Belt, Leone, Slater, and Tyler Rogers. I'm thinking the Pusoy crowd would be Joc, Slater, Rogers for starters. Yaz, Thairo, and Flores were the ones that spoke out and it was probably about stuff like this. To me, Joc, Slater, and Rogers are on thin ice already. Wood is also suspect. I don't think the kids would be that stupid.

I just want to point out that playing cards or music in the clubhouses is not a problem in and of itself because this has been going on even before they travelled in planes. Yet, this is a symptom of a much larger problem dealing with lack of focus, lack of talent, lack of priorities, and lack of professionalism. The key word in the tweet was "near-zealotry" which implies that these players were spending more time playing cards than prepping for games. Senior players should be mentoring the younger players or a least act like professionals. Several people have called it out (FZ, Wotus, Flores, Thairo, and Yaz). Maybe the manager should spend less time in the weight room and should have paid attention to this a little more.
