I still don't think Randy understands, Boly. You have made it pretty clear that you do now.
There are considerations such as the 40-man roster, and I don't think Randy understands that. Farhan has proven to be quite good at getting control of as many decent players as he can. That involves not only the 25-man roster, but the 40-man as well. And it involves being able to sneak guys through waivers so they can add to the depth available to the major league team even as they are demoted to the minors.
I believe Farhan excels at his attention to detail.

Just because I disagree with you does not mean I don't understand

You're the only person I've come across who doesn't like the Giants' deadline deals, Randy. Either you're smarter than the rest of the world, or you simply don't understand.
I mean, seriously, shouldn't the Giants' deadline deals be considered a success just by getting rid of all of Melancon's salary? And that's even if you don't like Dubon and Davis as prospects, which most do.

It's not the deals made that poss me off. It's the deals not made. The deals made were ok I guess...certainly not brilliant by any stretch.

Getting Atlanta to take on Melancon's contract while getting players in return is about as brilliant a move I've seen made by any GM. Granted, the players we acquired in return for Melancon aren't much, but we did get Melancon off the books and Zaidi convinced Atlanta that wasn't enough. That's a firm step in the right direction. What I like about Zaidi is he doesn't stubbornly sit on mistakes, he casts them away and brings in someone else.

I'd rather pay all or part of the salary if we got legit talent back

Now that's brilliant thinking Randy, we should have traded him for last years #1 pick, why didn't Zaidi think of that?
Unfortunately, there's this thing called the real world, and your opinion of the job Zaidi has done doesn't correlate with that.

Rog -- I too would have liked to see the cupboard swept bare of older players. If Longoria had just been healthy, I think they could have gotten him off the books too. I was shocked when I saw how well he was hitting the ball in the period prior to his injury. But as Boagie pointed out, getting ALL Melancon's salary off the books was a coup, and didn't you just about fall over when the Giants' got the Brewers' #3 prospect (albeit from a depleted farm system) back for Pomeranz and Black? The best player the Giants gave up was Dyson (despite his horrid debut for the Twins), but Jaylin Davis appears to be an exciting player. I'd rather pay all or part of the salary if we got legit talent back Rog -- I understand your point, Randy, but most seemed to be simply praying that they could get most of Melancon's salary off the books. Wouldn't you have been thrilled over the winter to trade Mark just to get half or more of his pact out of the way? Farhan accomplished three things at the deadline: . He appeared to give the Giants a better shot at this season, particularly with the additions of Gennett and Dubon. Perhaps Davis too. . He seemed to make the Giants better for the future. . He cleared $20 million or so off the books for 2020, money that will give him a little breathing room for the winter. Look how much he's accomplished WITHOUT spending much money. Don't you think that's quite a trio of accomplishments? Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/5499/jaylin-davis?page=2#ixzz5wZ0VXq9G

Why is it, Randy, that you're the only person I've seen that doesn't appreciate all the Giants accomplished at the deadline? I'm talking Giants fans and press, and the national guys.

Obviously i see things differently than you all do. I also was the only one that didnt jump on the bandwagon when the team played over its head

All true, Randy, but I am evaluating Farhan on what he did, which, IMHO, was pretty darned good, while giving us at least a chance.
I wish I could influence you to look at the deals from that perspective, rather than from the perspective that you wanted him to blow the thing up; which, as I pointed out many times, he could not and would not do.

You have to reward players for playing well. If Zaidi had traded Bum the fans would have revolted, and Zaidi would have lost trust from the players. That would have been a major price to pay in exchange for a few prospects.

If this group of scrap heap players get offended by a GM taking advantage of a golden opportunity to upgrade the talent here, I say let them try to find another team that would give them the shot we gave them. I'm guessing it won't be as large a number as they think.

As for the fans, we all know they are fickle. Bring talent in and they will be back. They won't be so high on keeping Bum after he leaves.

I think there is an above-average chance the Giants re-sign Madison. Anthony Rendon looks like a very nice potential free agent pickup.
