Rog, we're never going to agree on balls and strikes and my/the TV view.
I can tell within a fraction of an inch if the pitch is in the same location as the previous ones.
All I ask from the umpires is two fold:
1-Call the strike zone as defined, not YOUR individual strike zones.
2-Call the same pitches correctly 99% of the time. If it was a strike in the 3rd, it's a strike in the 7th. Be consistent.

I can tell within a fraction of an inch if the pitch is in the same location as the previous ones. Rog -- If that is true, you should have been an umpire. But I'm virtually positive it isn't true. I go by how the catcher's glove moves to catch the ball. That helps me be fairly accurate. But nowhere near within a fraction of an inch. For one thing, the catcher doesn't always hold his glove in the same position. For another, the pitcher rarely hits the glove to the point where the catcher doesn't move an inch or more. For yet another, the camera angle isn't the same in each park. If you can truly tell within a fraction of an inch where a pitch was, you are many times better in doing so than even the most accurate pitchers are in throwing their pitches. I agree with what you would like to see from an umpire, although no umpire in the world is going to get balls and strikes correctly 99% of the time. That would be akin to batting .500. I believe we think umpiring is far easier than it is. If umpiring is simple, why is it that even the best umpires MLB can find out of the tens of thousands who would like to do the job can't approach 99% accuracy? Common sense tells us shooting free throws is a lot tougher than it looks. Common sense tells us that umpiring is far more difficult than we believe. The other day I thought the ump called a great game....with the strike zone showing on TV, the ump seemed to get every call right...and there were a slew of pitches that were right on the corners....and I believe he ended up with a big argument and tossing a player.....and he was rewards by getting hit with a pitch the catcher had glance off his glove....last night, pretty awful calls...all night, both teams...
