This is a cut and paste from "Giants Extra."
If you haven't seen it, it pretty much says what we've all known for a long time.
"Angel Pagan grades out as the worst defensive center fielder in baseball. And that simply won’t work for a team that plays in a pitcher’s park.
When Pagan allowed a catchable fly ball to drop at his feet Saturday, it was anecdotal evidence that matched the advanced metrics. Pagan’s ultimate zone rating is dead last among 23 major league center fielders who have played enough innings to qualify. The Giants’ proprietary stats show that their center fielders have cost the team 24 runs; the only position that has been more detrimental among NL clubs is Mets shortstops, who have cost their team 27 runs.
According to Fangraphs.com, Pagan’s rating of minus-12.8 runs saved is last among everyday major league center fielders.
Pagan is owed $10 million for next season but his name has come up in trade discussions; the Giants could seek to swap him for someone else’s dead money, or perhaps make him more palatable by lashing a prospect onto him in a potential deal.
In all honesty, I'd rather he NOT be our guy out there next year.
It's not that I dislike HIM, it's just that he falls short for us in multiple areas.
1-He's a terrible lead off hitter, as I've pointed out about eleventeen times.
2-He's simply not a good CF. He's adequate at best.
As the article points out--"Pagan is owed $10 million for next season but his name has come up in trade discussions; the Giants could seek to swap him for someone else’s dead money, or perhaps make him more palatable by lashing a prospect onto him in a potential deal.
Asking Pagan to move to a corner would be a challenge, and not just because of any resistance the team might encounter. They already have internal solutions, in addition to a $5.5 million option on Nori Aoki.
Thus moving him would be difficult. I think it could be done in a ceative package, and frankly, it's worth a shot.
But my prediction is that it will NOT happen.
It won't.
The idea will die where it stands because I think Bochy will kill it.
He still believes "Pagan makes us go."
That hasn't been true since 2012, and it's my opinion that he's the only one who doesn't see that.
I hope I'm wrong. I really do.
I'd rather see Parker, or Tomlinson WIN the job in Spring Training.
That catch Kelby made yesterday showed me a LOT!
Biggo, Yount and others have made the transition.
They might have been better players, but Kelby is right up there with them as an athelet.
